Welcome to Fight Club!

This community is intended to be run as a neutral space where political debates can be held without partisan mods disrupting the debate with their own biases. You won't have to worry about your comments being removed based on your political preference (unless you are MAGA in which case you are not welcome).

But (and this is important) that is not a license to behave badly. You MUST follow the community rules at all times.

Although the name "fight club" suggests fighting, it is intended to be tongue-in-cheek. The purpose of this community is to be more of a political debating club, where folks can argue about ideas without the comments descending into unproductive ad hominem attacks and bad faith accusations.

Posting and comment Guidelines

New posts must comply with these guidelines or they will be removed.

• The post title must clearly articulate the proposition. For example, "Sending NATO troops into Ukraine to defend against Russian invaders is essential for the long term security of Europe."
• You should present your argument in the post body.
• Reply comments can be for or against the proposition.
• Follow the community rules (below).

Rules

All participants are bound by our community rules. Please don't post here unless you accept them.

::: spoiler Treat each other like friends, not adversaries

1. There is no “winner.” The community at large "wins" by having constructive and informative debates.
2. Everyone is an equal participant; no hierarchy or special treatment.
3. Give people the benefit of the doubt and always assume good faith. So, strictly no bad-jacketing.
   :::

::: spoiler No making things personal

1. No name calling or personal attacks. That means calling each other pejorative names such as "tankie" and "fascist" is expressly disallowed.
2. No judgmental questions like “how could you believe that?” or “why can’t you see?” questions. Pose “what” questions instead like “what makes you feel that way?” or “what has led you to that conclusion?”
3. Nobody loses face for changing their mind. That is to be encouraged.
   :::

::: spoiler Keep the debate about facts and logic, and stay on-topic

1. If anyone (including mods) notices a logical fallacy in an argument, then please clearly identify the fallacy in a reply comment. Fallacious arguments should be discounted.
2. Check the validity of assertions of fact, and analyze the quality of evidence.
3. If the debate veers too far off-topic then it may be locked, or comments removed.
   :::

::: spoiler Off limit topics

1. Identity politics (although its fine if this comes up as part of another debate) + TBA as they crop up.

There are some topics that all three mods may not wish to moderate. Any of the three community mods reserve the right to veto a discussion topic at their discretion. However we all commit to do this transparently and the mod must post their reasoning upon removal.

If you are unsure, please ask first.

Administration

The mod team includes a "representative" from each of the three main political factions on Lemmy:

• Liberals
• Marxist-Leninists (MLs)
• Anarchists

No one in the mod team is permitted to actively participate in debates on either side. We will only step in to enforce fight club rules and/or to keep the debate moving in a constructive direction. Mods may also create debate topic posts to promote topics of interest.
