Not that some of the "they're simply*" options are entirely incorrect for me, But nerd and/or geek is definitely a more apt descriptor.

LOL This person is a bit unhinged, and cannot recognize that Linux distros are viable for just about everyone who wants to manage their computer. And not have a big corporation interfere with what they can and cannot do with their computer. Cheaters, criminals, and all sorts use a variety of OS.

I just happen to be a geek that enjoys Linux, specifically, Garuda Linux. A great distro.

One of the big sticking points stopping me from to switching to Linux is that I don't get to do the incredibly cool crime of stealing from Bill Gates. I considered switching to RHEL, but stealing from IBM isn't quite as cool.

Oh no, it's not parody. They genuinely hate Linux and are on a crusade against the community. I have them blocked because the spam on the new queue was relentless.

Its a meme among racist and anti Semitic people. They talk about gentoo as an escape from Jews. There is imagery to go along with it but I dont have any. So when I see the gentoo logo I always think of those posters.

Pfft, look at this guy, who wants to buy only genuine IBM PCs and not PC-clones! I bet he pays for his usenet subscription, and sends his extra AOL free trial CDs back so they can be distributed to users who need it.

While you're technically right, I'd say that FOSS in general is more than just a tool, and Linux is The FOSS project.

Deciding to share your work freely and cooperate with strangers as a contributor is, especially in a world driven by profits, a pretty major lifestyle/philosophy and an act of resistance against capitalism.

Of course, you can just exploit the ecosystem and treat it as any other tool, that happens to be free, but I would say that that is the explanation about "people that worship the altar of Linus" that you're looking for. Spending basically your entire life to help make something, especially as complex as an operating system, for others and for free is something that, at least in my eyes, is worthy of admiration and I have utmost repsect for people who contribute.

Not much competition really.

This is someone who says "linux users don't have jobs", but on another hand, spends all day making stupid (and occasionally bigoted) memes, like the weird one about pronouns.

Someone who spends this much time attacking an operating system, probably doesn't have much of an exciting life (and, they probably aren't getting invited to anything, anywhere)

On my side, I believe people can use whatever they want (even TempleOS). I use Fedora, but Windows in a VM for work. I used to sell Apple gear (and, Apple hardware is the ONLY hardware I've ever come across with really weird hardware design issues, like wireless mice that can't be plugged in and use).

The irony is though, almost everyone uses Linux every day somehow (whether its embedded in some of their devices, like their router, or they use Android).

Also, this Lemmy instance probably runs on Linux..

I recall at one of the conferences (or during), maybe 20 years, someone was apparently selling a porn video training people how to use nmap.

Yeah, I do think that people can and should use whatever. As long as they are fine with the shortcomings of said OS, and it still works well with their workflow. I am starting to just give a shit about what I am using and only protesting the worst garbage big corpos are pulling (I pay attention to what is happening on other OS). Yeah, Linux is everywhere, as it can be made to be small and useful. So while one might use a MacOS or Windows device, they rely on Linux to connect to the web. I like Android because of the Linux Kernel underneath it all, but, I really would like to get a phone that is open source...Heh. One day, perhaps. As I use a Samsung at the moment.

Reads LLM generated, honestly. It's probably a troll who spends the whole day prompting some unrestricted models and losing touch with reality.

Then I wondered how well an LLM would manage that... XD It's been going at it for minutes already.

Oh, it's done now...

Worked for 6min 27s

The text is upside-down. Flipping each character and reversing the word order gives:

I love you all with the Crime songs

It doesn't matter who it was. I know the song you meant, and now it is stuck in my head all day.

Thankfully it's a fairly enjoyable riff to spontaneously interrupt me any time I leave my brain free for a few seconds :)
