Why would you hesitate to share those when so many high budget movies are worse? Gimme one of your faves. Personally, I find Underworld to be wildly entertaining, kinda thoughtful, and delightfully sincere.

I don't really know where that idea came from. Even pure ethanol has a taste and odor. I've worked with a few dumb fucks that though it was impossible to smell on your breath.

I'm not sure either, but I guess the key term was "distinctive" in the United States federal guidelines, which might be where the misconception came from. Also, according to this article, in 2020 in the United States federal regulation, flavor was dropped:

Until recently, vodka’s long-standing federal definition was “neutral spirits distilled or treated after distillation with charcoal or other materials so as to be without distinctive character, aroma, taste or color.”

and then they go on to regarding the new standard:

we have a new standard of identity: “‘Vodka’ is neutral spirits which may be treated with up to two grams per liter of sugar and up to one gram per liter of citric acid.” While neutrality remains part of the definition, for the first time since 1949, the standard no longer defines vodka by the character it does not possess.

Yeah, it's kind of a weird hobby that way. I don't get how people can see the problem with loot boxes but be enthusiastic Magic players... people have extensive criticism of monetization of video games, but when it comes to trading card games: absolute crickets.

Well a lot of us do think the gambling aspect is problematic, which is why I mentioned it in my initial comment. I just think it's a fun game but I can think that while also wishing certain aspects were different.

Honey on scrambled eggs. Peanut butter on rice. Gotten a lot of side-eye for these over the years.

Peanut sauce is a thing in East Asia. I guess peanut butter isn't that far off.

Isn't vodka supposed to be colorless, odorless, and tasteless by definition? I don't drink it (and don't want recommendations) but is the difference that the less expensive stuff is less pure and gives you more of a hangover?

That's something that hardcore alcoholics believe. You can absolutely smell and taste it. You can smell it on their breath, and coming out of their pores the next day. In fact vodka breath is just about the most distinguishing liquor in that regard. I remember PT tests in the army and you could count them as you ran past them. Other drinkers, it was much harder, maybe they're struggling cause they're sick? But vodka hits you like the brick wall of Aunt Miriam's perfume.

Bruh, underworld isnt even close to what he's talking about. Go watch tubi or Amazon for the truly low budget. I recommend velocipastor.

I hope that steak is cooked well done.

It's not often I usually prefer medium rare and then I'll only use it to dip in, but not all the time.

But it's actually best on well done

When I was younger, I was pretty into drugs. Same. If I told you half of what I've done, you'd think nobody could do that much. I regret nothing. Swansea's monologue at the end of Mouthwashing sums it up pretty well for me. ::: spoiler spoiler "I got a collar shirt, mortgage and a credit card." "All the things that make a good man." "I hoped I could raise my children to be better than their old...

I ended up getting chased off the roof of my colleges basketball gym, over a suspension walking bridge and through the woods by a security guard and a police officer. I ran to a bar and called a cab back to my dorm and acted like "yo, what's with all the cop cars?" Thanks to drugs. The next morning my girlfriends twin and their friend, both RAs, asked if we had fun last night. They didn't know, but they knew.

I can't believe nobody's said "my dick" yet. So I'll go with that/procrasturbating.

Also, I don't drain or soak up fat from meat I cook that goes into soup. That grease is what makes you keep licking your lips for hours after the meal is gone.

Meal prepping the same lunch.

Been doing this for over a decade now. Minor variations in veggies, switched from chicken to beans and rice about a year ago. I love it. Very affordable and I never have to think about lunch.

I've had a co-worker call me a "bad man" when I told him I just eat the same thing everyday. I get it tho, people need to change things up. But for me as long as it has nutrients and doesn't taste bad I genuinely don't care that it's exactly the same.

The Fediverse. I can't be bothered explaining what the Fediverse is or how it works or how it differs from traditional social media. I can't be bothered recommending browser add-ons that correct issues that might not actually be 'issues' to the person in question. And even if I did all that, there's a 1/100 chance they'll actually care enough to try it, and an even smaller chance still that they'll stick with it. I don't even tell people that the memes I send them are from Lemmy, because I can't be bothered with the follow-up questions. My parents, for example, who use Facebook exclusively, could not be paid enough to even try the Fedi equivalent (Friendica). The average person doesn't care about their private data being sold or the behaviour of tech CEOs or the abuse of their psyches by algorithms, so there's no reason for them to go to the pain of learning an entirely new ecosystem that's less 'good' but requires more effort. The average person simply wants AI-generated images of lions with racist anti-immigrant slogans printed under them, and Facebook is unbeatable in that regard. I just can't be bothered. Plus, I like that it's comparatively less crowded here. Let Facebook keep their race rioters!

drinking the oil or water out of a sardine can after taking the sardines out. It’s a favorite treat for me but everyone that has ever seen me drinking it has gagged so I don’t recommend it much🤷🏼‍♀️ King Oscar Tiny Tots are my favorites. Any olive oil is preferred over soybean oil.

With oil-packed tinned fish, I almost always use that oil in whatever I'm making. Water-packed, not so much.

Riding a motorcycle. I would never recommend that to anyone. Because if anything would happen to them, that wouldn't be great ...

I think that's kinda the risk we take and must impress on others. Then again, where I live now has a mildly-complicated test course that must be completed within a set of rules so there is a certain minimum level of competency.

Right?! I love a good time-intensive meal now again, but other things can be nice too. If I can make 7 days of food in the time it takes to make 1 day of unique meals, that frees a dozen hours to do something else. I can wait until Christmas to try that 5 hour lasagne recipie. Meanwhile I can focus on what's important... like shitpost comments

Eating roasted peanuts shell and all. It's insanely salty and takes forever to chew, but no one told me you're not supposed to do that when I was a kid.

In the south I've seen people eat the entire boiled peanut. There was a guy in Lillington NC who moved there from Buffalo NY who used to sell boiled peanuts in butter and franks hot, and people ate them whole. He disappeared one day around 2007 and I've never seen nuts like his since.

Huh, looking online they're all over now. Even at Walmart

Guess it depends on the audience. I can recommend the young gay and gay-friendly people in my community anything in Almodovar's filmography, but not so much to my MIL (she's not a hater but would find it distasteful and unnecessary) and other members of my family and in laws. And I can recommend one of Shahid Bolsen's rants to the latter group but certainly not to the former (even if they might benefit more from it 🤷‍♂️).

I still haven't met IRL someone I could recommend Sseth or Mandalore to, but I think our community doesn't spend a lot of time outside anyway. 😅

Best on well done, because it moistens the overly dry meat.

I say this as a lover of A1, and lover of medium steaks.

I grew up with leather and A1, and I still like that from time to time. Now I've come to love medium steaks, and if seasoned and cooked correctly, I don't need A1. Though I still crave it, and will use it on my own steaks at home.

All in all, steak is delicious.

I don't recommend drinking NOS Energy Drink.

They already have kinda limited supplies; I don't need more people drinking it and making the stores sell out so I can't get any. It not only tastes way better than other energy drinks, it actually wakes my ass up.

The humor lies in the messed up situations and characters. The narrator in the audiobooks brings so much depth to them. One of my favorite characters who is a good example of this isn't introduced until book 4. Again, it's definitely not for everyone, but there's a growing cult fan base.

The lawyer is legit my favorite character.

A little maybe. I can tell you that I hate the taste of alcohol. I have never in my life drank anything with any kind of alcohol in it, where I couldn't taste that disgusting flavor. I do like being inebriated though, so I've tried a lot.

An uncle of mine, backwoods af, all kinds of stills, dozens of different homebrew alcohols, would turn anything that "failed" into this odorless, flavorless, perfectly clear shine that I could taste only as a faint idea.

It was so potent that even at his parties, with dozens of other backwoods alcoholics, that jar would go on the stage so we could all see who drank how much, and intervene if we thought they had more than the occasional small sip. It was murderously potent, and your body had no idea.

sound like it will burn your eyes. anything that has high oil content that is usually mentholated or have alot of MINT can cause terrible contact dermatitis. mint oil in some toothpaste is strong enough to cause burning sensations in your mouth, thats where the mint taste comes from. some people are allergic to it so they get ulcers or lip dermatitis.

hind quarters the most dangerous area. even cats and dogs, if you high maitenance dog or cat, like husky/GSD dont bother because they are high energy and require lots of grooming professionally if you are unwilling to do it yourself.

for cats, any long haired cats is high maintenance, sphynx is very high maintenance because its hairless and is prone to alot o skin diseases, and extremely annoying to clean because thier oils trap dirt in thier crevices, they are even more high maintenance then long haired cats, also should not be exposed to intense sun light. also exotic breeds like bengals/savannahs are all ill-advised, because of thier wild ancestry you will not be able to control them if you are not experienced.

I wish I was like this. I grew up on a lot of the same meals over and over because my mom worked her ass off and didn't have time to cook fresh all the time. Now I can't stand having to eat the same meal even twice in a week. It wasn't so bad when I was less busy but now I am busy and feel exhausted when I have to think of new meals to make.

Path of Exile.

In my opinion it is one of the best games ever made but the learning curve is so insane I don't feel comfortable blanket recommending the game. Now it has been ~3 years since I last played and I heard the game is more beginner friendly these days but it still sounds rough.

I'd recommend the game if you have a friend or friends to play with or know someone who plays who can show you the ropes. If you want to be frustrated, but want a game with insane depth then go ahead and play it blind.

It's one of those games that is designed and curated for the top 10 or maybe even 1% of players of the games. It's crafted for the die hard fans. It's an amazing game. But it's also completely unapproachable for 99% of people.

Also, yes, I know Path of Exile 2 is more beginner friendly but IMO Path of Exile 2 isn't as good as Path of Exile. At least for the time being.

To be fair, its really hard to explain to people why its good. Like imagine the inverse of trying to sell someone on seeing John Wick by describing the plot. "Theres a retired assassin and some gangster kills his dog and then he goes on a rampage". DCC ping-pongs around from dick jokes to proper emotional torment to obscene violence and back to dick jokes so well while not being able to stick to a genre worth a damn that any attempt to decribe it will sound like a delusional fever dream.
