I mean the word you want is prejudice but sure star racism is a lot catchier and race is a construct anyways.
Prejudice is much too generic imho. "Races" in racism are (socially constructed, as you said) classes assigned from conception/birth, which racists believe to have class-specific inherited (often behavioural) traits. The only functional difference between (classical) racism and the (star) racism of astrology is that one claims inheritance via genetics, the other inheritance via "vibes" from star formations. |

Honestly while I'm secular myself, this stance would lead to me politely refusing a second date. Yes astrology is daft, but most of the things you and I believe are daft too or at least only locally true and culturally constructed rather than globally true. I don't care if someone is religious or secular, what I do care is to what extent they believe humanity can know unfiltered truth in the fi...
So when you buy a coffee do you lecture the cashier about how 'culturally constructed' money is, or do you just pay them? |

In the same way I feel bad for all the women out that had to put up with conversations about crypto for the last decade, the astrology for dudes
The amount of times I've asked a crypto bro to tell me exactly what The Blockchain is and them being able to actually lucidly explain it is exactly 0, in my experience. I know there's science somewhere in there, but the loudest enthusiasts I've come across treat it like magic. |

It's clearly pseudoscientific nonsense. But it's easier to say "I'm a pisces" instead of "I'm feeling hesitant about the future of our relationship, Sarah" if she is into that. The value is in being able to reference loose personality archetypes without having to spend a paragraph describing someone.
The problem is that you're not really referencing "loose personality archetypes" in these sorts of conversations, they're being assigned to you, relatively arbitrarily. It doesn't matter if I'm serious and thoughtful, but because I was born on the third moon after the pomegranate harvest, I'm the joker of the group. |

then it's harmful and should probably be stopped. ideally you'd have empirically verified folk wisdom, but then it isn't folk wisdom anymore, just science.
I don't know if the website has been updated recently, but http://www.whatstheharm.net/astrology.html has a pretty good record of the harm various pseudosciences have caused. |

i know. i can't ever understand. my skin is white therefore I just can't help going around oppressing other people. if I truly understood my privileged, I'd just kill myself so I stop oppressing everyone, but only if I donate all my assets to some random poor black immigrant woman who is trans, mentally ill, and physically disabled, right? gotta maximize those intersectionality underprilvedged points to offset my privileged points! FWIW I live in a city where people talk about stupid shit like this all day. But I don't ever seem them giving up their million dollar homes and Teslas to poor black folks. I wonder why that is. Almost as if their conservations about this are more about status signalling to each other more than anything else... |

No, I think it's pretty reasonable to push back if you're being pigeonholed into some kind of archetype you disagree with. Tell them to stop being such Capricorns. The trick is it doesn't really matter what sign you use, it's just a bit |

There are more stupid people than non-stupid people. Getting laid is a numbers game. You vastly reduce your chances if you start getting picky.

What you are misunderstanding (possibly intentionally), is that each axis of power dynamics has more- and less-privileged positions: race, class, sex, gender, sexual orientation, physical dis/ability, mental dis/ability, etc. A fully able-bodied and mentally healthy rich, white, straight, cis man is obviously going to be more privileged than a paraplegic, poor, black, gay, trans woman with learning disabilities (but note that even this does not automatically translate into more happiness, better self-esteem, etc.). But if you try to compare the privilege of an upper-middle class, native-American, gay, cis woman born with only one hand vs. a poor, white, straight, cis, teenage boy with ADHD, it’s much thornier, and ultimately not an important comparison to make. When people speak of white privilege, they are saying that a white person lives generally unencumbered by their race and how others perceive them because of it. They are, in aggregate, less likely to be pulled over or stopped by police. They are more likely to get job interviews, and to be seen as a good potential hire by those interviewing them. For male privilege, it means being more likely to be seen as leadership material, less likelihood of being sexually assaulted, a probability of higher lifetime earnings, and less chance of having one’s ailments dismissed by doctors, or of being passed over for a promotion because you might someday get pregnant and need maternity leave. Every axis of privilege is different, they are not particularly cross-comparable, and they are all just probabilities - none are deterministic. Some types of privilege are fairly inherent (class, health/ability), while others are based on how our society treats people differently based on group affiliation (race, sex, gender, sexuality). The point of identifying these is not to shame those who have privilege, but rather to recognize the various difficulties faced by those who are less privileged, so that we might mitigate those challenges. In a just world, everyone would be treated as though they were a member of the privileged group(s) along every axis, and judged only by their own actions. |

Hmm? What does that even mean in this context, "latent"? You mean "unexplored"? If I'm a "latent" homosexual, it just means I'm homosexual, no? So if by "go" you mean "be true to myself", then fine, I guess? But if I'm bi, or straight, I can't just turn off my attraction to the opposite sex to "go gay". Please correct me if I'm wrong, non-straight, non-gay people! Is it possible to just flip your attractions off? Sincerely, cis straight male who's earnestly trying to be as woke as possible and educate myself to be accurate and inclusive. |

for a lot of people being picky means they will never get laid. and that's fine, if you can accept that. but they don't. they are enraged by the lack of 'quality' people available to them. and offended by the abundance of low quality people available to them. the idea you can 'raise your standards' and get 'better results', in dating/mating, is mostly cope. Especially when you start looking at the statistics. truth is people really should lower them, and well, humble themselves. because most folks aren't nearly as 'hot' as they perceive themselves to be. it's also highly subjective. I attract a lot of very desirable women, but they aren't desirable to me due to my own biases and lifestyle preferences. Just yesterday I got like half dozen likes from women on Hinge, but they all worked in finance or pharma, so I rejected them because for me working in those industries means 'low quality' just like believe in astrology. But if I wanted to get laid? Yeah I should get over that bias, those type of women really like me, even though I hate them. And I only developed this bias due to my younger years... repeatedly trying to date them and running into the same miserable issues again and again. |

I used to be a bit of a dick about astrology. I still think it's nonsense, but now I kinda view it as a structure for people to explore their own emotions and as a kind of authority struct to get people to treat those emotions as valid. Ultimately I feel like its no different than me sharing emo song lyrics with an "omg they understand me frfr" type message. Maybe the astrology believer isn't upset because Venus is in retrograde or whatever, but they are upset their emotions are valid. I don't gain anything from being a wet blanket about scientific accuracy in that situation, and they feel like I am invalidating their emotions if I choose to be that scientifically accurate wet blanket. Plus, retrograde is a dope word and I'm not sure if I'd know it if not for the crystal girls I've dated |

yes. they want to feel their emotions are valid. even if they aren't. Astrology and other theoretical systems also take the locus of control out of their own authority and place it in a higher authority to which they are subjected. and therein lies the problem. not every emotion is valid. some emotions are invalid. but if you aren't responsible for the causes of your emotions... you're not responsible for figuring out which ones are valid or invalid. they are something that happens to you, not something you control. and happy well-adjusted folks... learn to figure out which is which, and unhappy folks... can't or won't do this. and a huge part of therapeutic processes is ... learning to identify and assess your own emotional states and whether or not to act on them. |

it's not magic, it's just really boring and stupid if you explain it well. it's just a decentralized authentication network built on cryptography algorithms. but i guess if you don't know what any of those words mean it seems mysterious. you need a baseline understanding of networking and cryptography, and well, very few people have that. and people attribute financial value to each bitcoin (or whatever coin), which is just a piece of code you uniquely possess when it is in your 'wallet'. |

It's really not that interesting unless you're specifically into cryptography, and then it's like, kind of interesting for 20 minutes. I remember when "the blockchain" first came out people were talking about lots of potential uses (secure online voting was the only one that comes to mind) besides scamming people and selling illegal stuff, but of course none of those ever materialized. |

I imagine they would have preferred going to class and learning about something real, it sounds like they just skipped the blockchain stuff. Oh sorry, only 43% of women aged 18-49, I guess 43% is nowhere near half. I suppose if you're a granny chaser then it is indeed only a quarter. If you're into LGBT folks, it actually goes above 50% (over 60% for LGBT women). Since my own dating pool and most of my friendships are smack dab in the middle of that 18-49 demographic, I can tell you it's easily around half of women around that age who believe in astrology, tarot or something else similar here in Estonia, so it's not US specific either. Including a lot of otherwise very intelligent women. A master's degree in a STEM field for example does not discourage one from believing in astrology by any means. Or perhaps you just don't know enough women? Oh and men aren't all innocent either. A fifth of men aged 18-49 believe in astrology or similar superstitions too. Less than half as many as women, but still a significant amount. |
