I love the series and yeah its definitely not for everyone but I would say finish book one. Its a very unique flavour. I cant think of another "If you like that then you have to read DCC"

Right?! I love a good time-intensive meal now again, but other things can be nice too. If I can make 7 days of food in the time it takes to make 1 day of unique meals, that frees a dozen hours to do something else. I can wait until Christmas to try that 5 hour lasagne recipie. Meanwhile I can focus on what's important... like shitpost comments

What do you make that lasts 7 days? Or do you freeze it?

Warhammer 40K. Not even once.

Ill raise you Marvel Crisis Protocol. Same buy in, fewer players to justify it.

Smoking and alcoholism are a good combination but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone

Quasar is good but by the end of book 8, the A.I is low key becoming the best character.

Aside from Prepotente of course.

Prepotente has definitely had his moments but the way the A.I has transitioned slowly from a plot advancement, narrative and exposition tool into a full blown "Whats IT going to do?" character is one of my favorite things about the series.

Deadlock. I feel like you need experience in maybe 3 genres of games before you can understand the concept well, and then it's a sizable time commitment. I adore it, but that's a pretty steep entry fee.

The Fediverse. I can't be bothered explaining what the Fediverse is or how it works or how it differs from traditional social media. I can't be bothered recommending browser add-ons that correct issues that might not actually be 'issues' to the person in question. And even if I did all that, there's a 1/100 chance they'll actually care enough to try it, and an even smaller chance still that the...

Yeah I can't be bothered to do that either. I post links from Lemmy, people ask "whats this?" I say "its Lemmy, like a reddit thing but different" if they are interested after that, I just tell them to go in and click things, maybe make a account and see if it keeps their interest. I'd say 1 out of every 30 people are interested enough to make a account but not sure how many of them stay active. Maybe 1 in 100 lol.

I think that's the best part about the game. They didn't make a game for everyone. They made this ultra specific game that looks amazing, it is funny, it has hundreds of thousand voicelines. The movment is the best i have ever seen in a game. It's complicated as fuck, the later you start playing, the more characters you have to learn. But still, they cracked over 200k players last week after the update, and it is still invite only. I really enjoy my time right now, because i feel like we're in the good old times right now, before it goes public and the lootboxes roll out.

Bjork. Some people just aren't into her music, and that's OK.

A few months ago I finally decided to force myself through her discography. I would probably love everything she has done, if I weren't such a snob about electronic music. And by that I mean I'm one of those "eww electronic music, where is the real musicians?" type of people.

But anyway, I did find myself enjoying most of her stuff. Debut, Post and Vespertine are excellent albums. I also have Homogenic, Medúlla and Utopia on my playlist, but quite often find myself skipping those.

So based on that, I would recommend everyone to listen to her catalogue once and see if there is anything you like in there. Since there is such a variety of stuff from her, I bet everyone can find a song or two to add to their playlist. But yeah, I understand that not everyone is willing to spend a couple of days listening to one artists discography on the off chance of maybe finding something to like. But for me it was worth it.

In recent years, I've started feeling comfortable recommending it over Windows.

Sure, I'll still tell friends and family to just get a Mac. But if you're not going to do that, Windows is just a worse experience in most the important ways at this point, even for a non-techie user.

Man, the end of book 1 really sets up everything. The books really go deeper into themes we are experiencing today in society, but on a larger level. I don’t want to spoil it in case you ever want to get through it.

The absurdity of what happens in the dungeon is literally meant to be absurd because it’s galactic entertainment on a fucked up level.

In the end, it’s an entertaining series with a lot of social commentary.

The humor lies in the messed up situations and characters. The narrator in the audiobooks brings so much depth to them. One of my favorite characters who is a good example of this isn't introduced until book 4. Again, it's definitely not for everyone, but there's a growing cult fan base.

Are the characters good? I think what tripped me up most is from what I heard they seemed one-dimentional. Like do they have complexity and personality, or are they mostly one-note or trope-y? (Which can admittedly still be fun in the right setting)

Because I like the premise. Kind of like a mix of tabletop RPG + dungeon crawler/procedurally generated games + hitchhikers guide to the galaxy?

To be fair, its really hard to explain to people why its good. Like imagine the inverse of trying to sell someone on seeing John Wick by describing the plot. "Theres a retired assassin and some gangster kills his dog and then he goes on a rampage". DCC ping-pongs around from dick jokes to proper emotional torment to obscene violence and back to dick jokes so well while not being able to stick t...

That's exactly how I've had John Wick described to me.. hah. It's not at the top of my to-watch-list, but it's not disqualified either.

Alright, so long as there's some emotional torment and not just dick jokes - I'm in!

Yeah, dinner is where I get variety, as are all weekend meals. On weekdays breakfast is the same quick and easy meal, and lunch is the same easy to throw together the night before meal. On rare occasions I'll switch it up for a time or change the meal, but it's been a few years of lunch being the same.

It's fine, sure I'd love more variety, and if I retire I'll probably never fall back to this meal again. But I appreciate the fact that I don't have to think or plan or anything.

Path of Exile. In my opinion it is one of the best games ever made but the learning curve is so insane I don't feel comfortable blanket recommending the game. Now it has been ~3 years since I last played and I heard the game is more beginner friendly these days but it still sounds rough. I'd recommend the game if you have a friend or friends to play with or know someone who plays who can show y...

Path of Exile is good for like, one season (do they still do seasons?). I got super into it for a while, then took a break, and when I came back I was forced to respec my character. So I dropped it for a while and came back and had to respec my character again. I won't pick it up again because I don't want to re figure out what the hell my build was and respec all over again just to pick up where I left off.

It kinda straddles it. Most of the characters are on a TV show, and some play into it or are minor bit characters. Meanwhile the major characters have growth and depth as it's explored what kind of person survives in this situation and what it does to them.

You're not going to get the level of depth from side characters you'd get in say Murderbot, nor will you get similar growth, but that's because Murderbot is about healing, and DCC is about people in a ridiculous and bad situation trying to stay whole or at least break on their own terms.

I am not an advid reader so I don't not want to mislead you with my answer, but I feel the main characters do build a depth of dimensionality as the series continues.

I think most players play the league which only lasts like 3 to 4 months before it resets and then move on to the next league. I think the most I've played is 3 leagues consecutively. When ai play though I go all out which is very disruptive to my life and it also gives me burn out so I then have to quit for a while.

What is your lunch? Rice and beans with a veggie side? Anything else?

1 bag frozen corn, 2 green/red/yellow peppers, refried black beans from a can, rice with a packet of taco seasoning thrown in for flavor, and a grilled sweet onion. Split across 5 glass Tupperware containers.

Used to do broccoli, brussel sprouts, mushrooms for a little while, but the corn, peppers and onion keep really well. Its that last meal on Friday that could sometimes get questionable lol

Medium rare is where it's at. But if you ever want to be brave. Go to a hibachi grill and order a tuna steak rare. I didn't believe it but it's like the best version of prime rib but it's tuna. And I'm extremely paranoid of undercooked fish more so than red meat or chicken but man was that delicious

3d printing. It's essentially process engineering or manufacturing engineering but hobby level. It will go wrong and you will be frustrated and it will take experimentation and thought to figure it out. (it's better now than years ago, things have drastically improved.) if you don't like fiddling with things, don't do 3d printing. For me? I freaking love it. I love fixing printing mistakes or whatever. Solving problems is wonderful.

I won't turn away a medium rare steak. It's quite good on fact. But I've found with my palette, I'm more sensitive to being too rare than too done, having grown up on leather.

Like, rare is delicious, but if the cook does it wrong, myself included, then the texture and temperature of the meat is off putting to me.

My father in law gave a steak that was wedge shaped, so the thin end was overdone, but the thick end was beyond raw, on the inside. I struggled to eat that, though I did.

That being said, I also love beef tartare, so, go figure 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the tuna recommendation, maybe I'll have my SO order it and I'll try some. I'm starting to like fish, in small doses. But my mom is allergic, so growing up we never even had it in the house, so I never learned to like it. That and my first introduction to it was some swampy pond Bass that my friend swore was delicious. It was not. It tasted like bad fish smells. That set me back a decade or two. But again, I'm coming around.

I like certain salmon meals, perch, crab, etc. Heck, canned tuna just went on the menu for me this year, so, progress.

Guns.

I like sport shooting at ranges and the historical context. For instance, I have a non-sporterised Lee-Enfield that was used to shoot Nazis.

However, firearms should only be owned by folks that have the training and level of responsibility to use them safely.

Driving the Tanami Track.

It is one of the more remote roads in the world. Beautiful in its own way.

Can be 400-500km from emergency services. And 250km from shops. Hot and dusty.

--

Last year, driving north we saw a couple who had rolled their car, 100km from the nearest town. Very minor injuries, but one with an epilepsy diagnosis.

We were the first vehicle they had seen, in the 2 hours since the time of accident.

Transferred them and belongings to the nearest hospital 350km away.
