NA (non alcoholic) beer. I enjoy beer, even the macro-brewery styles. Every NA beer I've tried is the dishwater tasting worst example of beer. I don't get it. There are so many better NA options.

I like it specifically because both it and regular beer taste bad. Sometimes im eating good food and i have to fuck it up for a little bit so i can remember how good the food is.

Deviled eggs. Every woman i know fawns over them and scarfs them down the second they can but its literally all of the worst foods plopped into an egg (the egg is fine, i guess)

That being said, i love the taste of medicine and look for things people complain tastes like cough syrup or nyquil

I see like 50 mentions and alcohol and energy drinks. I got something different.

Kombucha.

Holy shit, it's like a soda that went off, and I don't even like soda. It is pungent and awful and I hate that it's marketed so well. Any time I see it on a shelf I'm like "Ooh, what's this fancy looking juice? That's a nice looking bottle. Oh, it's Kombucha, I would rather drink a cup of foamy dog vomit"

I'm just gonna go ahead and be the guy that says... all alcohols. I've tried beer, wine, tequila, vodka, hard liquors, spirits, fruity drinks, creamy drinks, coffee flavored rum, hard seltzer, hard cider, champagne, you name it. They don't all taste horrible-- coffee (even though I don't usually drink it) and fruit flavored drinks can be acceptable-- but I haven't ever tried a single drink that...

I've had maybe a dozen drinks since my first one 7 years ago, and most of those were bagged fruity frozen drinks that, yeah, helped hide the alcohol flavor. Would have been better as just nonalcoholic frozen fruity drinks. Mocktails can be good but imo most of the ones I've had were overpriced for juice and soda water.

Outside of those, I had some sips of an IPA and a pilsner on a food tour, tried a couple cocktails my folks made after they got back from a cruise (which was weird because I never saw them drink before), tried whatever drink has a salt rim at a restaurant (it was terrible). Haven't had anything this year. Never been buzzed.

Kombucha was what she was reacting to.

Point of order: Deviled eggs aren't a drink.

Red Bull tastes like ass. I never understood how it became the most popular energy drink.

Red Bull is marketed as a drug, not as a beverage.

Nobody discusses the scent of cocaine.

I'd say it depends on the beer a lot, as well. Personally I like sours, but will occasionally want an IPA. The American-style beer is only tolerable after you get a few drinks in

Oh there's variety for sure, there's a big brewing scene in Australia, so tonnes of choice, and some people love them, but I can't stand any of the taste. Love spirits, but beer I kinda just can't.

The thing that stands out to me is when I talk to people about it about half talk about it like it's something you have to force yourself into liking? Culturally we have a bunch of peer pressure about it, so I see where that comes from.

Pretty much all premade gluten free stuff taste horrible or the texture is weird. I agree, wheat is top tier. But since I can’t have it, homemade gluten free goods is 100% the way to go. Does is taste the same as its wheat counterparts? No, but at least the homemade stuff is fucking delicious.

I in no way fault anyone if they can't handle it, and I'm being a bit facetious. But I don't get why anyone would choose it like it's some healthy option. I hate low fat or low calorie anything, but at least I understand the motivation there.

Definitely coffee. I know it's super popular but I can't stand it. I kinda like the smell of it, but the taste I find awful and the aftereffects are excruciating and longlasting. Someone suggested I might have an allergy. I might or might not look further into this at some point I have tried decaf though, once... chasing the hope that it would still -despite the absence of caffeine- trigger bow...

I hated tea and coffee (apart from the smell) until my early thirties… now I drink gallons of both. Turns out I hated the “additives”. Black tea (maybe with a slice of lemon) and black coffee I really enjoy.

Also the smell of Redbull (taurine?) used to make me feel sick but now I can drink it. Weird.

Oh man, I absolutely adore coffee, it’s one of my all time favorite things. It like happy in a glass. But I’m getting old, and I can’t deal with the caffeine like when I was a kid, and decaf is just ruined coffee (not sure if it’s the process or the missing caffeine flavor, but I’ve never tasted a decaf I like). But the unaltered stuff, I even munch plain beans every now and again. Then again, ...

freshly made is always better than stuff you buy in a bottle pre-made, pre made it overprocessed.

I've always hated diet sodas but the new Coke Zero Sugar is pretty close to good. Zero alone wasn't quite there, I used to mix it with the full sugar Coke, but they tweaked it and shifted to Zero Sugar, and got really close. It doesn't have any aftertaste at all, it's just not quite as sweet tasting, which is good. I've tried the Zero Sugar versions of a few other drinks, and they were acceptab...

Interesting. Ironically I never liked Coca-Cola. Nowadays I don't like most sodas at all, way too sweet. I might be getting old.

Most coffee tastes like burnt vegetable farts. I think it's the process and that to get the most caffeine out, you have to over-roast it or something so that it's the most porous. Or they do that so that it's fast. I dunno. Vita coffee has a decent decaf with the orange label. Not great, just decent. I had to grind it finer than other coffees and pull slower shots.

I worked at a natural grocery store in college. I was totally with OP at first, but many a free sample got me into it. If you drink enough of it, you start to enjoy it, much like beer or wine, it's an acquired taste. There was a time where I was drinking 1/day. Now since I'm not around it all the time, I'll get it once every few months, but I still enjoy it very much.

Champagne. It tastes of bitter, sour and fizz and because of its stupidly intense carbonation, drinking it needs to be done in tiny little wincing sips, lest it bubble up through your sinuses and come out of your nose. I swear people only pretend to like champage because they believe it's the drink for 'classy' celebrations, so disliking champagne is, in their mind, a 'low class' and ungrateful...

I'll echo something others have said in reaction to other drinks, but it sounds like you've not had good champagne then.

I think there was something like you need four experiences to normalize what you don't like. Be it food on kids or coffee or whatnot.

Personally, I don't like coffee either, but for me that includes the smell.

Aha, I can certainly relate to liking black tea over flavoured tea. I still have a bag of BOP from a trip in Kerala 15 years ago. It's lost a bit of its flavour since then..., I should make plans for renewing the stock.

What's pretty good too is cola nut. It's very common in Madagascar and I was able to buy some.

If you like yogurt it's not that different. Both are 'off' and it's just the cultural context that you grow up in that teaches which one is acceptable.

If you didn't drink alcohol for multiple years. They all mostly smell and taste like isopropyl or paint thinner. Its kinda funny. Especially wine.

It’s only bitter if you get a dry type. Get a sweet champagne.

Eh, I've tried both. The bitterness I'm talking about comes through on the back of your tongue after you swallow a sip, just like with the dry stuff. I think it's the carbonation that causes it? Sweet champagne just masks the taste a bit at first, but after a few sips it's just as strong.

I might have missed it but did nobody mention Raki? Anise seed flavored...gag....

I love a good, natural mastica made from real tree sap, but a bad anisette or fake chemical mastica or ouzo very much isn't for me, either. The Turkish Yeni Raki is just running the typical Balkan rakija/rakia/also called raki in Albania, IIRC, bit isn't the Turkish flavored stuf.

Now, apricot rakija, that's where it's at.

It’s cause Malört is fucking gross so people started drinking it ironically and came full circle. There’s a bar in Tennessee that specializes in Malört based mixed drinks. I tried some just to say I did and they were just OK.

Malort broke Chicago containment? SMH

Nashville doesn't have enough Scandis to have a tradition of medicinal bitters, which is what malort is based on. It's an invasive species there, like kudzu or Asian carp.
