Ever just throw a hot pocket in there for a couple minutes?

Lol, it's warm. Though thanks to the intake and exhaust built into the cabinet the temps are great. I added what they currently are while it's rencoding by library.

Sorry brother this makes me twitchy. Needs air.

Intake fan is hiding in the bottom behind case 😅 of not yea it'd probably melt. I posted temps though if you're curious

Neat, an Intel GPU.

Thanks! For plex and frigate it's been awesome. Also running tdarr to rencode everything to Av1 at 8mbs or less

Excellent heat retention! Doubles as a stove top

There's actually two fans built into the cabinet! Pulls more fresh air then if it were outside of it. 😎❄️

The intake is probably in the bottom.

This guy got it! Love you man

I don't get this setup. First you install a lot of sound proofing, then you install one fan that has to run near light speed to keep that computer cool.

I have an intake on the bottom pulling cold air, and the top is for exhaust. Both are 3000 rpm fans and together keep the tennis real low. I added the current tennis in a comment while it's running full tilt

How are the temps?

Added them in another comment, but I'll put them here to. This is while I have plex and frigate running with tdarr rencoding 8 files into av1 at a time

Yeah, seems a second fan would help with air flow into/out of the case. Depending on how air tight everything is when it's closed.

There are actuality two fans. There's an intake on the bottom full cold air, and the top is exhaust. I posted temps if you wanna see how it is at full tilt

I assume that's all sound proofing. How well does it work? And like the other commenter asked, I'm curious how it affects the temperature

The sound proofing helps a ton. This sits in my living room and I can barely hear it. There's also a second fan hiding on the bottom for intake, while the top is just exhaust. Keeps temps nice and cool

Yeah its one of the ones that I think went off the define 6 design, I've got a Corsair case with a similar design/layout but no latches, I had to do a closer look too.

It's a really old corsair case I picked up for free. It's also packed with noctua fans 😂

Oof, do NOT run a server over WIFI. If plain old Ethernet is not an option, get something like this which, no, is not cheap but will offer a MUCH better experience.

Wifi is just there as a backup. Everything is hardwired

Very cool, I have a similar set up and I can advice you that it will overheat if you close that cabinet

Not if there were a second fan hiding in there 😉

Damn, you have enough HDDs to host the whole netflix there.

Theres currently 110 tb of usable space. Got a bunch of 14tb drives when you could shuck them for 150 each

Not op, but went snooping. Looks like it might be on the left. https://lemmy.world/post/20717184

That's it! Though when I was first seting up my new place 😊 it's on my comment history so I don't think that's snooping

I9 11900k
Z590I Vision D ITX mobo
64gb memory
The 16x lane is bifurcated to run:
Intel a310 &
Lsi 9305 16e into a hp dl380

You gotta do push pull. There's another fan on the bottom of the cabinet pulling in fresh, while all the hot air is directed up and out. Temps are more stable then my gaming rig sitting 5 feet away in the open air.

The whole setup is really quiet actually! The cabinet has an intake fan hiding on the bottom, while the top fan is just exhaust. Then all the fans in the system are built for front to top exhaust. I posted temps while the system is running full tilt of you were curious

Yeah but I bet they could be better because your intake/exhaust do not look like they can keep up with your CPU cooler. I would install bigger fans with a higher CFM, and remove the insulating foam padding.

You'd 100% be wrong I'm sorry to say. With the way the setup is my temps are barely above what they would be outside the cabinet, with the benefit that it's basically silent (it's in my living room by necessity and I can't hear it)

Picked this one up for $20!

Packed with no-name fans, which I ended up pulling. My media cabinet below the TV has a PC and some other gear, so I have a temp sensor and fan controller hooked up to those no-names now right in there. Works great!

I'm choosing to focus on the positive comments, and giving info to those who doubt. In the end I know there's a few people at least who saw this and got some inspiration for a fun project

You are a bigger person than I <3
what youre doing is a great solution to noise in a living space and if you have no thermal throttling its designed exactly for what its intended for.
Thanks for sharing you have given me some ideas for managing my own noise issues regarding homelabbing.

To be honest, I have more media then I'll ever need, and after rencoding everything it shouldn't use even half the space. The a310 is the real goat here for saving space

I just think no one's really coming at it in a way they think it's rude, and most had been out of concern, just worded rough. I definitely can be rough with my words sometime so I can't be too mad. Also thanks for engaging ❤️ love you and all the lurkers following along

They are! I also have a small sheet of foam on the wall behind the cabinet too to catch any sound leaking out, so all I get is a small hum

thanks for sharing, nicely done, would love a video or dB reading. noise wise, my rack doesn't get too bad running mini-itx boards and quadro p2200s; my gaming rig, on the other hand, could benefit from this. SFF case with a deshrouded rx 6650 xt and 80mm server fans from arctic (max 8000rpm). it sounds like a jet engine spinning up when i play anything, despite the 3000rpm limit i put in fan control.

aside, would you mind sharing your av1 settings? i currently pass everything through ffmpeg to mkv in an attempt to save space with my plex library

If you can hear it, it's most likely working. Or at least that's what I've convinced myself after listening to them spinning up for the past 15 years.
