Iirc, some nutritionist a while back did an experiment where they ate only potatoes for X number of days and proved that you can survive indefinitely off of only potatoes. You can also bury a piece of a potato and it willl grow into a potato plant. They're basically an infinite food glitch.

Rice is pretty versatile too. It's just that western countries only use rice as an alternative to mashed potatoes with meat. That's basically the only purpose for rice in the west. Doesn't have to though. Just check what they're doing with rice in Japan.

You really have to define what “only potatoes” means, because most potato dishes also have a bunch of other ingredients

A quick search brings up a couple people who have done this (Ireland notwithstanding). I remember this guy doing it, but there are others.

I only grew potatoes once and a fungus got the tops after awhile, yet I still got 5X what I put in the ground with zero watering, fertilizing or even looking at them. I also didn't make a proper mound so I probably could have got 10X.

They're so damned easy I've wondered if most of the cost at the grocery is from transporting all that weight. Corn's the second easiest food I've grown.

During Victorian times, poor people in the north of England were healthier than those in the south, because those in the south ate bread and those in the north ate potatoes. Potatoes have vitamin C, wheat doesn't.

Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it.

I believe potatoes and cheese ultimately provide all the nutrition the body actually requires for average daily modern life.

Like, you can actually be physically healthy and well by eating nothing else.

Mentally speaking the jury is still out regarding the health of a person who chooses to live on nothing but potatoes and cheese, but daily nutritional requirements are absolutely met.

I read a book a while back that actually had a big chunk on this sort of thing. Most people dont realize that for eons people ate the same staple, day in and day out. Very specific deffieciencies came about from what the people in the region ate.
