These are all lemmy-related. What brought me to the fediverse was Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter.

I was using Mastodon long before I started using Lemmy.

As for me, I joined the Fediverse long before there was Lemmy, long before there was even Mastodon, even before it was named Fediverse. I stumbled upon a free, open-source, self-hostable alternative to Facebook that even had features beyond Facebook.

The only one I still use is youtube and that's in a logged out state and in a browser.

Can't say I miss Facebook, Instagram and reddit. It's been over a year and I barely think about it nowadays.

I have my issues with Lemmy, but you can filter out most of the bs so at this point it's mostly memes, animal photography and other wholesome stuff that's left in my feed. Life is good.

Let me assure you though that it's entirely possible to get banned from Lemmy as well. Not quite as permanently though, but still.

Reddit became too stale for me after a while. Sometimes I still post memes there or look up something, but otherwise my main way of getting information became kbin, later Lemmy once Ernest disappeared, though it was helped by Xitter also becoming an unreliable astroturfed garbage with CSAM generator integrated.

I hear this a lot but never see it. Not entirely sure how the whole thing works but I think you'd be happier on an instance like the one I'm on, where they've blocked the instance(s) hosting the worst of what you describe whilst still promoting a healthy amount of progressive/socialist values.
