Despite its dark subject matter, “Trail to Oregon” is a slapstick comedy. While stuck together on a tiny not-so-covered wagon, the family bickers all across the American West. They face bandits, dysentery, a horny ox and multiple fires.
When real life began mirroring the show after the Spokane Complex fires destroyed hundreds of homes over the weekend, Betts was unsure if the play should continue with performances this weekend. Actor CaraLee Rose thought the show should go on – shortly after she evacuated her own home.
“This show has been the only normalcy in my life. I can’t be at my house. My shampoo smells wrong. My neck hurts because I’ve been sleeping on the floor, I didn’t even evacuate with a bra,” she said.
