• I usually open two web browser windows side-by-side on a computer. But you could follow the mastodon commentary on a phone app while watching the movie on TV or something.

I love this movie as well, but I've never been able to get into the whole social media watch party thing sadly. During covid we did try to watch movies with friends using video chat, but it was kinda awkward because of the sound.

Yea, it's a classic - a brilliantly funny one. It's a B movie in tone, so easily overlooked if you don't know about it.

I've loved it for decades.

I only just watched Carpenter's Prince of Darkness for the first time last Saturday and I was also like "How the hell did I never watch this before?!"

1. Get a Mastodon account, if you don't have one already.
2. Get the film ready (stream, DVD, download etc).
3. Get Mastodon ready (website, app etc) by going to the hashtag #KungFuSat
4. At the start time, press PLAY on the film, and read & write posts on Mastodon with the hashtag #KungFuSat .

There any many ways to do it, but personally I usually use:

• a laptop connected to my TV
• external or remote keyboard/trackpad
• a download of the film (.mp4/.mkv) on my computer, played in my local video player, on the left side of my computer screen/TV
• a web browser window with https://liveblog.stefanhayden.com/ (because you can enter the hashtag once & it stays for future posts; you don't have to keep writing the tag every time for each subsequent post) connected to my Mastodon account, on the right side of my computer screen/TV

Example re the #Monsterdon watch party.

• Left: SMPlayer playing video file of film.
• Right: narrow Zen Browser window with Liveblog
• • Upper area: Tags for posting window set to #Monsterdon & #MonsterMiru (a related tag), so that I don't have to keep typing them myself manually for every single post
• • Lower area: Search set to #Monsterdon so that I see posts for that watch party
