Is it me or does anyone else thinks the article is all over the place? One line says men are lonely, then jumps on memes, then jumps women and men are the same rate lonely and then its just saying you need money to have friends. And there isn’t a single like without a hyperlink and its just mish mash of what’s trending on Instagram and Reddit. |

it's not male-male relationships. it's every relationship. being a man gets you treated a certain way, and has certain expectations. and one of those is that you are never emotionally open or vulnerable without severe social consequence. And everyone also.. lectures you how it's your fault because you aren't open and vulnerable... it's a catch 22. You cannot win. Unless you win the lottery and ...
Also you've got some kind of agenda in these comments buddy, the dog whistles are screaming loud.
Please see a licensed therapist. You'll be giving them a run for their money with all they'd have to unpack but, if you don't have anyone in your life you can talk to openly, a therapist can be that person. |

not only that they are expected to be on thier own by 18, or when they finished college. while women can stay indefinitely as long as they arnt mooching. when men are allowed to stay home in thier 20s, or longer they are often seen negatively more than a women doing it, providing they arnt moouching. ridicule often comes from family members, or siblings that were lucky in living on thier own, o...
I get what you mean but your numbers feel like they are from 30 years ago. I don't think anyone is expected to be on their own at 18 or even after college anymore outside of the dickish parent. I think its just drags on the individual if it drags into the 30's or worse reverts in the 30's. I was not really independent till 28 and that was long ago and I still ended up living with a relative for short spates on two more occasions. one was when I was almost 40 and married. |

A one time encounter is different than seeing someone regularly. Also poor.
yeah conventions cost dough. you can ghost but that won't handle travel and such. |

If I had the money, I don't think frequenting conventions would make me less lonely. You got to spend hours traveling to the city to meet other travelers. I'm thinking meeting like minded people where I live, with physicality and frequency. A stranger you meet a few times at a distant convention might as well be a internet rando on the other side of the world. It's not a regular occurrence like...
going regularly to cons you see the same folks and do make friends. you look forward to the next con and get excited when its close. you go to the board and look to see if your friends you met before are at the one and if they have arrived. but I agree with your other thing that they cost. even in better times myself and many friends bemoaned not being able to go to a con for lack of funds. |

Never went regularly enough to build any relationships. Friends seem to have little interest in going any more and I'm too much of a nervous sort to do events like that solo. |

my core geek thing is gaming so I go alone and hang out in the gaming room and maybe hit up the movie or anime if its slow. the gaming room is a natural place for someone going to the con solo as games always need players. |

One thing the article doesn't go into is the factor of immigration. I am a first generation immigrant. All I had, all I have and all I ever will have, I work for. Nothing made me feel more disconnected from my closest friends (who aren't immigrants) was when their the older generation family started to die off and suddenly the had access to large sums of money (6-digit sums) through inheritance...
Same. I've been getting by on welfare basically my entire life and consider "taking the bus to mcdonalds" to be a quite extravagant luxury, so basically everything i see is so utterly fucking alienating. |

I don't know enough people that would be into it, and I've had too many League payers in my life. |
