Earlier this week, there was a Phoronix article that claimed good performance improvement by swapping the Fedora default power profile on Fedora to standard profile: https://www.phoronix.com/review/fedora-pantherlake-thermald-tuned From my own research, I found the standard profile is designed for desktop OS and the Fedora tuned version is better for server. It is no surprise to me because Fedora trademark is owned by Red Hat/IBM. So I decided to give my laptop (Fedora Workstation) a try by swapping the power profile. My laptop is a Lenovo Yoga Aura Edition with Intel Luna Lake 258v CPU and 32GB RAM. The multi-core performance improvement is quite impressive. See numbers below and links: Before: single, 2,566; multi, 10,929 After: single, 2,581; multi, 11,962 Links: Before: https://browser.geekbench.com/v7/cpu/70433 After: https://browser.geekbench.com/v7/cpu/131715 Both of my desktop PCs run Rocky Linux. I checked their power profiles and surely they run the tuned version. If you have swapped the Fedora profile as well, please do a benchmark of your choice and share the results. |
