It has been "coming soon" for some time now in Lemmy, officially implemented in upstream code on June 17, 2025, however it is for a long awaited 1.0 release which there is no publicly announced timeline and involves many API overhauls, while virtually every lemmy server is on version 0.19.xx at this moment (latest status update). The feature is currently available with an alternative software called Piefed, and some Lemmy frontend user apps such as Summit.

Point B is the most important. The software is open source and can be forked... if there is enough interest and support. We've seen it happen with OpenOffice/LibreOffice, ownCloud/Nextcloud, mySQL/mariaDB, and other cases. In many cases both projects will continue in parallel, sometimes even remerging (node.js and io.js) or cross-developing (lots of Neovim features made it back into Vim).

I’m here because I, again, got banned on Reddit for no reason. I had a comment taken off. I contested it and within hours I was banned. They won’t tell me why my comment was bad, then my entire account. If you break a rule then tell me which one! It’s super obnoxious. And it’s a damn bot that does the banning. Makes no sense.
So I’m here because I want something similar and it’s better here. It’s taking a bit of getting used to but I’ll figure it out.

I got banned a few days ago because my account got hacked and spammed a bunch of NSFW posts, they said I broke rules and I appealed only for them to come back and say we reviewed and feel like a permaban is still needed. I appealed again and they finally changed it to a temp ban and sited I broke rule 2 which was spamming or fake posts yet I was the one who reported it to them. I remembered Lemmy from a post last year when the boycott US started and finally kicked my butt over here and I'm very happy I did.

I was banned from 3 different subreddits yesterday. 2 of them were from pointing out that some of our state politicians voted to cut funding to universities that spoke out against Israel. And the third one a comment that said:
“I actually took it in the context that he (Hakeem Jeffries) was performative/fake/doing someone else’s bidding”.

It just made me realize how manufactured Reddit had become. You get banned these days just for calling out facism. It’s literally become a tool for the top 1% to use for training their AI models, and a way to influence public opinion.
