Btw, I was reminded of this quote by the comic strip about this person's nervous breakdown.

It made me think of the following, requoted:

I suppose it's an interesting commentary on the nature of belief, especially in today’s complicated world. As in-- once you lock in a belief, you have to reconcile it with your other beliefs, plus whatever actual facts & reality are able to penetrate your skull. Kinda reminds me of the old Star Trek episodes in which Captain Kirk gives a computer more than it’s able to reconcile, and the computer winds up shaking itself to pieces.

To me it sounds exhausting, but YMMV.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention above is that the mental juggling isn't usually a static equation solved for good, but an ongoing process, requiring vigilant defense. Introduce a critical new belief or bit of reality and it may destroy the person's peace of mind, sometimes with some pretty scary repercussions.

Thats interesting, thanks for posting.

Doctor: I should have stopped you.

Harriet Jones: What does that make you, Doctor? Another alien threat?

Doctor: don’t challenge me, Harriet Jones, ’cause I’m a completely new man. I could bring down your government with a single word.

Harriet Jones: You’re the most remarkable man I’ve ever met, but I don’t think you’re quite capable of that.

Doctor : You’re right. Not a single word. Just six.

Harriet Jones: don’t think so.

Doctor : six words.

Harriet Jones: Stop it.

Doctor: Six. (to Alex): Don’t you think she looks tired?

Oh dear, I'm afraid I never really got in to the reboot / continuation. I'm not even sure I'd be keen on watching the original series again, except maybe for historical interest.

Feel free to recommend a choice ep (assuming on YT) and I'll have a go if you like.

(American here, trying to lay on some Brit-speak 😁)

Not American, Not Brit

But I’ll recommande every season with Eckelson or Tenant, the one written by Russel T. Davis

Ça me semble bien !
