at the airport you also have higher chances to meet people from different countries and cultures with different standards for what is casual clothing. A fancy dress for an American is an outfit to go at the grocery store for an Italian or a French

You nailed it. When I wear a T-shirt and have my tattoos visible, security treat me like shit and I always get pulled aside for extra checks and drug swipes. If I wear a nice suit, I get smiles and no hassle.

Isn't strange, that not to be pulled aside for extra checks me, as woman, I have to look bad,not to be interesting for security, opening luggage ect, where males can check. If I come with nice dress and makeup, hair done, I am wwwaaaayyy likeli going to be stopped for extra check. Even if later female officer comes to check if I am bot bringing anything, males will stand and watch me during ... so, bunny tail, oversized t-shirt and something sloppy usually doesn't attract their attention.

True, but they are going to wear it with sneakers.

I can't help but wonder: a test scenario missing here is what if you wear a boring ‘professional’ suit and hairdo like men do.

Of course, a case of a dude in a dress also remains to be checked.

There is a simple reason you haven't considered. I want to bring my suit on the trip, and I don't want to crush it into a bag, because it'll wrinkle.

this video is my go to for folding suits for travel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZu7RnfiCgU

It's funny because in my country, the airport security would prefer you to wear light clothes so it doesn't mess with their metal detectors. If you wear a formal dress with coats, belts, etc., then it makes their work harder and unless you are Muslim or Sikh they will probably ask you to remove the extra clothes.

Apparently you should at least avoid wearing shorts on planes. There's multiple reasons, including not sticking your skin where others people's skin have been stuck, but the most important to me is because of the slides in case of emergency. If you wear shorts and for some reason the slides have to be used to exit the plane, you risk being burned.

I'll take that risk over wearing jeans on an 8 hour flight.

Why don't you wrap yourself in a bag to go shopping? There is no reason to look nice.

Hell yeah. Too many people sleep on the socks from the business class amenities bag too. Put those on, then at the end of your nine hour flight putting your socks back on is like a fresh pair.

Yeah, I didn't check the stats but I'm pretty sure we have much more chances of just being hit by a car while existing than getting our thighs burned by the emergency slides while evacuating a plane, so I also sometimes take that chance anyway.

I really don't get people's issues with jeans, I can sleep in them

Or a dude in more flamboyant menswear that isn't professional, but is definitely nicer

I know it's just an example but French and Italian people don't dress much different than Americans unless you're in the center of Paris and maybe Rome.

Most Italian women I know would have a panic attack if they went out with a tracksuit or a pajama like Americans do. That's stuff that only happens in nightmares and if you're 20 in a slum outside of Milan. Anyway Rome is not considered particularly fashionable in Italy. You find the highest attention for this stuff in most cities in the North, with Milan being the center of the fashion industry and smaller towns being more bougie, and then in the South with the "show off the bling bling" culture more common throughout the Mediterranean. In the North, the minimum is to dress like for a fashion show, in the South the minimum is to dress like for a wedding. In the center they care less.
