Thousands of Chinook salmon return through Ballard Locks

Nearly 4,800 Chinook salmon were counted at the Ballard Locks between July 29 and Aug. 16, with the migration accelerating in mid-August.

If you haven't been to see the salmon running yet, make sure to get out to the locks -- you still have time

Visitors can watch the salmon through the underwater windows in the fish ladder viewing room. While the fish ladder viewing area was closed due to repairs earlier this summer, the room is now open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., although the number of fish visible at any particular time can be affected by tides, weather and other conditions.
