Microsoft's distinguished engineer says "typing code is absolutely over," and Windows 11 is already being built that way. Nadella previously said 20-30% code at MSFT is AI-coded, and Windows security…

Wall-E and Idiocracy are becoming more real every day. Over time there will be fewer people capable of understanding the code produced by AI. If this process repeats over decades and if AI isn't able to recursively improve itself without model collapse, eventually we will have the majority of software being built by model collapsing AI with almost no one left to be able to maintain it or even c...

"The artifacts of the forerunners are strange and powerful, existing only as energy stored in runes etched on silicon. It is said that a great calamity befell them, destroying their society but leaving racks of these runes behind. Now there is noone left who remembers how they were written."

Windows 11 is already being built that way.

That actually explains a lot

I keep seeing people say this. I haven't seen any lag in the start menu. What are you running on? A 5400 rpm drive?

Does Microsoft do A B testing?

It's much more responsive on my machine when I disable windows search indexer and superfetch (which I do anyway)

I had a work machine a decade ago that both the Start menu and Outlook were broken on until I turned off indexing.

I made the jump to a Linux distro after upgrading to Windows 11. Microslop ruined a once decent enough company.

Opening the start menu and waiting for it to execute JavaScript fully before everything loads.

The computer that lags like this is an HP Elitebook 645 running Win 11 Enterprise. It has a Ryzen AMD 7 Pro 7730 with 16GB RAM. My drive is a 512GB WD SN740 SSD NVMe. It's not cutting edge, but it's fair to expect the OS to perform pretty seamlessly.

Yeah, Windows Me wasn't well received.

Did you ever think that maybe opus is producing rubbish that nobody wants to read, and you are tempted at accept it for the sake of "productivity"? If some piece of training data worked around some problem in an old dependency, well now all the generated code is going to build in that same workaround and write out comments explaining it whether it applies anymore or not. Its like superstition c...

I pay pretty good attention to data models and isolating interfaces. I don't pay as much attention now to leaf code. Sections which can be written and then rewritten quickly by ai.

Opus is almost as good as me tactically when it has context and fable is as good but way faster.

They both lack sufficient long term architectural context but I provide that for them.

I don't vibe code.

Idk how people can type this shit out and not feel disgusting. Productivity for what. You've outsourced your thinking to the gambling prompt machine. Yikes.

I see that this is an unpopular opinion and I'm fine with that.

Our job is not to write code. Our job is to transform data.

We don't stop thinking. We just think more strategically and focus on data models and isolating architectural interfaces.

Changing what you think about is not the same as stopping thinking.

The code details are not the hard part for an architect anyways. Isolating code to separate concerns and minimize complexity to ensure sustainable development velocity is the challenge.
