A know a few people who use them like a gopro - they record bike rides and stuff like that. But you have misunderstood them - they have a very obvious recording LED, so they're not designed to record without people's knowledge. And they have some detection mechanism to tell (by reflected light) if you put tape over it or (electronically) if you break it, so modifying them to record secretly is ...
People just drill out the LED and cover the hole with epoxy and can record with no light just fine. There was just a video on the Good Work YT channel where a journalist paid some dude in a Garage in New Jersey $100 and he did it in 10 minutes. |

Why would you pay like $300 or whatever for the glasses, $100 more for this mod, instead of doing what I said and buying a device designed for the job? You didn't actually disagree with anything I said, so I'm wondering what your point is. |

Did you read my other use cases or just answer about listening to music?
I'm not the person you're replying to, but I've owned several pairs of bone conduction headphones, both Alibaba white label stuff and the big brand name. All of them:
They are essentially the "audio only version" of Meta glasses you're requesting. My current Shokz OpenMove was a big upgrade in Bluetooth range and connection stability from any of the white label stuff, though some of those sounded about as good. |

Going back a couple generations of this tech, I was a little excited about Google glass back in the day. And to be clear, I don't have, want, or like meta glasses or any of the other products out there right now. I don't trust the companies behind them, I don't like the people who have them, there's enormous privacy issues with them, and they're pretty much totally tied to AI at this point and ...
Even more true for biking directions. I bought a new old stock Google Glass for $50 and vibecoded OSMGlass for exactly that purpose. It's adequate. |

I personally think there's a separate discussion to be had, between "Who would use glasses embedded camera tech." Vs. "Who would use Facebook glasses ." It's the same as XR tech. Can it potentially be very cool? Sure! But in the hands of one of the most evil and soulless corporations this side of hell? They offer a touch of novelty to some users in exchange for that user ultimately being exploi...
It's weird to me that it took Meta releasing these for it to become a problem. Here's a review of some $130 spy camera glasses from 2013. Since then prices have decreased and capability has increased. There are a ton of "spy camera glasses" on Amazon. |

Sarcasm noted but also a very good point: it's kinda more of a "societal degeneracy" problem, it seems. 🤔 There's very few "You just don't do that" kind of social expectations anymore.
I agree. Shame, along with Elvis, has left the building. |

To specifically your point about geysers… I mean I do get it, kind of. We only feel like we need a recording of it because it’s now. If you’d gone 70 years ago you could literally just see it, know you saw it, know it was awesome and cherish the memory. But now we’ve been conditioned to require proof. For ourselves or social media, the outcome is the same. I travel a moderate amount and have se...
I'm not sure about that. I have aphantasia, so no visual memories. My problem is with past events, they often feel like they're disconnected from me. I don't have a first person sense of my childhood for example. I can remember what happened, but I don't so much remember it happening. Photography for me is a way of anchoring myself to the event. When I look at a photo of something, it takes me back there in a way my memory can't. |
