Zelda Breath of the Wild: Weapon durability. Fuck I was so annoyed by that. Even the Master Sword with it's cooldown. That felt like a really disrespectful design choice for OG Zelda fans. Will be the last Zelda game I (attempted to) play, although it pains me.

First time I picked it up I had this same problem but you get far enough into the game and you never really run out of weapons so I eventually just ignored it

They mentioned the Lord Soul, which means they're talking about the Tomb of Giants area below the Catacombs. Which is pitch black, made up of narrow cliffs with deadly drops (that you can't even see until you're a few feet away), is filled with giant skeletons that hit hard and aren't fun to fight, and even with a light source visibility is so poor that you only get a second's warning before a ...

Right, I meant tomb of giants.

Take a divine weapon in and rush the lantern holders. Divine weapons make them stop reviving.

Thanks for the tip, I never tried a divine weapon. I think I'll start a new play through and remember that.

at least you didn't need to keep fusing stuff to them to make them do anything but provide a light tickle to enemies

Caveblazers: The object of the game is a treasure at the end of the cave. When you finally get to the end, it turns out that the "treasure" is a harem of bikinied women. The final boss is this goblin guy who spends his days raping them, and then when you defeat the boss, the women move into YOUR cave so that YOU can do the same. This is a roguelike game that otherwise has no story and was pretty fun, but the ending is just awful. I can't find anybody else talking about how terrible it is except for one reviewer on YouTube, but the video disappeared years ago.

Persona 4: The whole game is about people accepting parts of themselves that they try to reject and becoming their "true self." EXCEPT for Kanji who is gay and Naoto who is trans. Their arcs are the reverse of everybody else, they are forced to reject their true self in order to conform with what the other characters want them to be like. There's a scene after Naoto's dungeon where the team forces them to detransition on the spot. Start acting like a woman NOW NOW NOW. When I heard that the character's voice actor change her voice to be more feminine in that scene, I quit the game. They force Naoto to say "I will never be a man." This is also, by the way, one of the most fiercely debated topics on the Internet, I've seen people online get more heated about the "Kanji gay Naoto trans" debate than any other topic.

I grew up on Diablo 1 & 2. I could co-op with friends, the grind wasn't too bad, and the RNG table for loot was acceptable. Then Diablo 3 launched with a real money auction house, it made me realize that GAMETIME = MONEY and it just zapped all of the fun.

At the time people used to buy and sell Diablo 2 items on eBay. I guess that’s why they decided to add it to the game.

I have been playing Fallout since the first game barely worked on my parents computer. The universe is amazing and I would go room by room, reading everything off of terminals and finding all the backstories. It killed me that I didn't want to go back and play Fallout 4 because I want the story but the game was just too annoying.

That's such a shame. I've always felt a bit better about it being my introduction, as it didn't seem terrible going in with no preconceived notion about what it was supposed to be. I could feel lots of cool pieces of an idea, but it never got me hooked on playing. I enjoyed the terminals learning about the world, and the factions were interesting, but none of them were fun or felt like they had too much of a chance to reform the Commonwealth as they were.

After I stopped playing, I still enjoyed watching the lore and the TV show, and some bits of playthroughs since I don't have anything that will play the other games and I've really enjoyed everything Fallout otherwise, so I'm glad I had something to get me interested in the franchise.

Did you go back to the series and play 76? I never learned much about that one as I heard it was even more disappointing and empty at launch, but I've heard some story bits since making it sound like they added things eventually, but I've never been curious enough to seek it out.

Absolutely loved Dark Souls until I needed to get the lord soul from the catacombs. I dunno why but the catacombs pissed me off and I quit. Just so dark. Maybe I'll try again.

There's a helm you can get that emits light. There's some skull shield or off hand too but you have to hold it up to make it work correctly. I usually just used the helm.

Usually anything that requires hours of grinding to win. Specifically completive play in Pokemon requiring hours of breeding to get perfect IVs and palworld bosses that require multiple perfect pals in order have enough dps to compete in the time limit

PalWorld has the option to modify damage to and from the player. Well, sort of... one makes Pals (including bosses) to take more damage. So if you crank the sliders just right, bosses become very easy for you to gun down but your Pals will get murdered instantly. Weird for a game centered around catching Pals.

Starfield. God awful pacing and dialog that made you go "oh please shut up". I went to neon and every vendor had a 5+ minute cutscene wah wah side quest story i couldn't give a shit about.

"Oh somebody fucked my robot and now im sad so let me explain that again with 20 paragraphs" -Shop Keeper
I don't give a shit fuck about your dumb robo bitch i have 20 spacesuits i need to sell so i can fast travel again.

The fact they didn't bother to add a dialog box first to access a service or buy/sell goods before the vendor starts telling you their life story was enough to make me not play again.

Makes me sad to hear this about Sleeping Dogs, because I absolutely loved it. Sometimes I would launch it just for a quick fight club bit because of how much I enjoyed the hand-to-hand fighting mechanics

Sleeping Dogs is the one game I have bought, and re-bought, for every platform I own. Fantastically underrated game with Emma Stone as a major characters voice. The combat is awesome. The story is tight. The driving is fun. The map is cool. The world is lived in. The combat is cool. The side quests are fun. Did I mention the combat is cool?

The Arkham series was already an exercise in great story hiding behind bad gameplay. But I don't even know if that held true for Arkham Knight, because 3 minutes into the thing you get put in a driving mini game that has absolutely shitty controls and is required to progress into the actual story. Since that proved impossible for me, I just wasted the price of the game and now I've gone from disdain for Rockstar as a studio to outright hate. Making the combat system in a Batman game into Dance Dance Revolution was stupid enough, but unskippable cross-genre skill gates are unforgivable.

Related, but slightly more forgiveable bcs it isn't required to progress the main story, The Pitt DLC for Fallout 3 has a section where the designers suddenly felt like Fallout had an a engine capable of being a 3D Platformer, and that people who'd already spent 30+ hours in Fallout 3 would enjoy having to do precision platform jumps to get to the good loot.

Basically, if you suddenly have a mini game or section that belongs to an entirely different genre, don't force people to engage with that, some of us hate driving games, some of us hate platformers, and I'm pretty sure nobody at all wanted a driving minigame in their Batman Rhythm-Soulslike.

There was an Arkham game (the first one, so Asylum?). I had to escape some locked rom under a timer.

I literally couldn't leave the room or find anything to interact with. I was swinging the camera around, kept pacing back and forth between locked doors and bars(?)

Eventually I ran out of time and the Jokes just said "boom!" On yhe screen and nothing else happened. I guess the timer was fake tension.

But anyway after spending three fucking minutes pacing in a single room for a single intractable I rather lost my taste for trying again

I almost quit then too. I eventually built a huge copper mine for just producing copper powder and conveying it to my main factory. It still was a struggle until I maxed all my production out there.

To create a shart hammer you need 13 arse nuggets. To mine arse nuggets you need a piss laser etc etc etc Let me fly dammit!

I hate it when games make you do heinous shit like this just to advance the plot. Call me any name you like, I don't enjoy being a terrible person in a game that I didn't go into with the expectation of playing the part. It just sucks and makes me not want to play your game.

I'm with you guys on this. I don't want the plot of a game to hinge on me both being the villain and the hero.

I tried playing Lorn's Lure last weekend, it starts off pretty strong - you're a robot that's been wandering around in decrepit underground structures for hundreds of years, looking for a way out. You have to do a lot of platforming and climbing. I got into a massive shaft (a bit like the "Silo" series from Apple) and had to slowly climb down to progress.

I got randomly dropped down when hanging around on certain walls for no reason at all, to the point where I was literally five meters above the next progress point and died because of the fall damage. I then looked into the Steam forums and saw the developer saying he decided to build the game with linear pathing so people wouldn't break out of the map.

It's just shitty design to give you a massive level with a seemingly open approach to traverse it and then make a lot of the walls unclimbable, so I quit and will never come back.

Back in the day I also ragequit Driver 1 because of that stupid training level at the start. :D

Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye DLC does this, unfortunately. Halfway through the story, Myst-like exploration of an abandoned location turns into horror wandering around pitch black locations with a janky lantern, being chased by creepy-looking aliens. Nope, made me stop playing. (Horror and jumpy enemies are fine if I have a weapon and can control the protagonist. But not if it's a death cutscene at a single touch in complete darkness. It made me more uncomfortable than Dusk, or Quake, or Blood did)

One of the main ways you progress in the game is by obtaining blueprints and then finding the ingredients to craft them. But you also have to craft things like fuel, ammo, etc. and to repair things. It's fun but can get tedious at times. Luckily the game lets you fine tune the experience at any time (it's
actually probably one of the games that does this best imo) and one of the options is free crafting which lets you craft ending immediately without finding the ingredients first. My rule of thumb was to mostly only use it to skip grinding for ingredients I'd found before but needed more of it finding them would be too annoying, but not to skip searching for stuff I hadn't seen yet.

The game is worth it imo. There is lots of content and it goes on sale from time to time. And all the DLC is always free which is nice.

IMO there's a few recipes that are fairly big momentum killers in Satisfactory. Factory games are probably my favourite genre and I love so many parts of satisfactory but I always hit a point in a playthrough that makes me quit (funnily enough, it's often not the same item that makes me quit).
