I’m collecting the discs of single player games that I have always wanted to play like Blood Borne.

I'm not. I'm an Xbox gamer, albeit begrudgingly. I wanted a PS4, wife wanted an XB1. So guess which one we got. I wanted a PS5, wife said get the PS5. But I couldn't afford it, and Xbox All Access meant I got 2 years of GamePass Ultimate at the original $15/month price and $20 off the Series X, so whatever $480 + (12 x $15) is. I had to finance that with a lender, but I paid no interest on it, and for like half the time I was getting GamePass Ultimate for half what other people were paying. $35 a month out of my checking account. Very doable.

Xbox has the right idea, and honestly Xbox has always seemed like they were trying to do the right thing. Some say that's because they've always been the underdog to Sony, but, I dunno. I thought the 360 held its own against PS3. (Personally, I liked the PS3 better than both the 360 and the XB1.) PS4 and PS5 absolutely wiped the floor with XB1 (deservedly so) and XSX (not so much). I think gamers largely chose this. They bought the ticket. Now Sony's obligated to give them the ride they bought the ticket for. I don't blame Sony. I blame their enablers. Specifically, I blame gamers in both camps that pushed "console wars" that only helped the corporations.

I'd like to believe that Sony's hubris will cost them the next generation. It seems like they're handing the crown back to Xbox Helix after holding it for two whole generations, and I don't see why. I fully believe Xbox Helix will also go discless, which is why Xbox is talking up their "disc to digital" system. Some influencers have been able to get in. I'm an Xbox Insider and it isn't available to us. Though there is a higher invite-only tier that I think YouTubers and other influencers can get into. That might be where the program is being beta tested. I think the rest of us are supposed to get it next month? But that's what I heard last month, about this month. They're still working out the kinks, and some publishers (like, ones you'd expect like Ubisoft and Square Enix and Bandai Namco) are holding out. Also SEGA for some reason. But a lot of them are playing along. Sony can't do it because Sony hasn't been stamping unique codes on their discs since the PS4 era like Xbox has been doing since XB1. Sony should absolutely let people mail in discs and give people codes for them. That would be better, since the disc could be too damaged to read the code, but they can just scan the top of the disc, identify what it's supposed to be, and use that rather than the actual data on the disc (which would take way longer than a visual scan — a visual scan of the bottom would ensure they're actually PlayStation discs and not burned CDs or something else with good labels printed/stuck on them).

The last three games I bought (4-5 years ago) were digital. Those are the only digital games I possess (excluding some free games). Thankfully most of my library is disc based and I’ll buy more when the opportunity arises

I’ll probably keep playing on my ps4 in the upcoming years. If opportunity (and money) arises and Sony keeps doing these shenanigans I’ll buy a pc

I don't own a PlayStation past 3, but for a while I definitely was considering getting one eventually to play the Demons Souls remake.
Sony isn't getting my money at any point in the future now.

This likely won’t affect my gaming behavior at all
