I'm gonna wear a suit again tomorrow. I'm of two minds about this... It's likely gonna be a little too hot to be comfortable with the suit, but it's fun to dress up. It's really not the end of the world at all, so I think it's fine. Plus, we're going to an orchestra concert, so I think it's appropriate!

I read a bit today. I'm reading Humus by Raul Brandão. It's really beautiful. It's getting a bit repetitive, he's just talking about the meaninglessness of life and how much people just live by a script, their interactions are guided by pattern and tradition and feel hollow. The place he's at feels unchanging and still, moldy. The prose is gorgeous and it's being a pleasant read, but if he's just gonna whine the whole way through I'm not gonna be able to stand it. He's philosophizing without end.

I wore jeans, today.

Also, I had a somewhat unpleasant conversation about Muslims in my country. It seems one of my coworkers is genuinely very scared of them. She thinks they're causing mayhem and making the country, the cities, dangerous. The foreigners are ruining everything. She said a bunch of stuff, including about the UK but also Portugal, and... It was just all wrong? About how schools were taking pork of the menus or changing Christmas parties to be "Winter parties"... It was genuinely scary for me to face this. I just looked it all up, in the news too, and I got hit with "the news can't be trusted" or "real news aren't in the news", stuff like that. She trusts random Facebook posts and IG reels more than established media.

Maybe I'm insane? It feels so absurd. I understand the general anxiety about foreigners, of course, and I get the skepticism of mainstream media, but she painted Muslims as genuine menaces. Also, she spoke as if just being Muslims was enough for me to think of them as threats? It was like it was self-evident. I damn near had to pry her issues out of her, as in, what did she actually dislike about them, what issues were they causing? The initial answers were "everything". What's bad about them? Everything. What issues were they causing? Everything. She cancelled vacations over her fear of Muslims. She says they stare at her through her windows and at the beach...

What the hell...
