I really don't think that word is the same as racial slurs. It's pretty much always directed at things or people that aren't really suffering from a low IQ or anything of the sort. It is an insult, but it's not used to persecute anyone, and it's not really ever used in the same spirit as them. Also, it's such a lyrical word.
