Probably didn't because (among, I'm sure, other reasons) the SNES was such a major upgrade over the NES that it would've drawn a negative comparison between the lesser difference of the Switch 2 versus the Switch. Younger audiences wouldn't get it/wouldn't care, and older audiences would see it as pandering/unwarranted.

Could also be that audiences were still wary of the whole Wii/Wii U debacle and just wanted reassurance that it'd be "more of the same but better".

And lastly, if they wanted a "Switch 3" in the future, it's been shown by Xbox that funny naming schemes can go awry after the second iteration.

They should have named the joy-cons the super drift controller too

Although, considering that all of the joy-cons all seem to eventually fail, the "con" part of the name was certainly appropriate

IMHO, Nintendo slaps “Super” on everything. At this point it’s basically a generic brand element that they use to make things Nintendo-ish.

I thought this for a while as well. Until it became blatantly obvious how much of a "Wii U" moment that would be. Not as bad, but nowhere near as concise and obvious as Switch 2.

It would also be the Nintendo Super Nintendo Switch. Or the Nintendo Super Switch. And that last one doesn't sound good to me personally.

Switch 2 makes the most sense when you really dive in to it.

They should have made two spin off consoles, The Nintendo Top and the Nintendo Bottom. That way they have a complete set.

May as well call it “Switch 2 Linux Gaming PCs” based on their actions pushing us all that direction anyway. Their legal team especially can get fucked. Not that Nintendo is any better or worse than Sony or Microsoft.

The good part is that we don’t need their stupid consoles because most games are available for PC and the few exclusives that aren’t will be available to emulate at some point.
