Now we have $7 esp32. Smaller, cheaper and does a lot of cool stuff.

The use cases are vastly different. And pretty sure I was using cheap ESP8266's a decade ago for everything I use an ESP32 for today.

ESP use cases are in line with OG pi, several RP2040/ RP2350 boards, etc

There's room for more than one SOC and competition/ variety is good!

Bullshit RAM prices bad tho. Very bad

http://www.orangepi.org/ https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/autonomous-machines/embedded-systems/ https://www.friendlyelec.com/ https://radxa.com/ https://pine64.org/ https://www.hardkernel.com/ Many people are going for Mini PCs now, which are obviously larger than the Pi, but can be found for similar prices and offer x86-64 rather than ARM as most SBCs do. Happy?

Yes, very. Thank you.

I'd be all about those things if you could buy 20 of them for 50 bucks.

I know this isn't exactly what you said or what happened, but it's funny to imagine that's what happened, and I'm gonna poker face try to use it.

They cost $3 at AliExpress, sadly Europe ruined AliExpress and imposed huge tarrifs on it.

I think the original affordability with the addition ready made projects and easy accessibility made it really stand out in peoples minds.

You can get a pi 5 with 1 GB of RAM for $42 at Micro Center still.

Woah for real??

See, how am I supposed to hear that and not think RPi is the GOAT? I don't know what else to say. That seems to be in a league of it's own to me.

Do you have a preference among these? Particularly for light-weight home servers and simple networked devices like a security camera?

I went the Mini PC route so I don't have a lot of knowledge of different SBCs. Most of them should have reviews available online.
