There's obviously history here that I have missed. Can someone tell me about this distro and what makes it controversial?

Distro that is basically an Arch rice with some AI. The creator (DHH) is the most controversial aspect

seema like concentrated effort to steer a specific linux desktop distribution in a certain direction There we go, I corrected your typos for you.

While I agree Linux is inherently anti fragile and can survive enshittification by corporate goons, that amount of money that this dot file Linux installer will have a heavy effect on what projects get funded and which ones are left to their own.

There's a nice donate page on the archlinux site and let me guess how much they'll get from this foundation when afaik the arch team had turned down whatever partnership the dot file installer guy wanted. Should come anyways no strings attached right? Considering they're funding hyprland. So using arch as a base would imply they would fund them no strings attached.... Right? lol

What happened or what information was the issue in that said video? I stopped watching Chris Titus for a long time (when he ditched Linux and went back to Windows, its years ago now).

Oh, he just made a point, that for him, it is worth to take some of its ideas and implement them into his own config. And I kinda feel the same about my sway setup.

Basically, it has cool stuff and you can read the configs and take what you like.

video in question

omarchy really doesn't make any sense as a distro. If someone really wants an agent, Why have all that slop prepackaged when you can just generate it yourself and have swim in your own slop.

Are they really pegging their success on attracting people who can't even copy paste a basic Hermes agent install script?

Yeah these people don't stay with Linux and they're attracting short lived attention and that's it.

I kind of enjoy seeing these corporations donators burn their money and also their reputation.

Just gonna shamelessly leave these two paragraphs out of the website of my own distro here.

Hope you get 1M.

I hate the phrase "X$ in compute" so much. What does that even mean? It could mean a 1.5 million dollar value worth of donated time on one of their servers, or it could mean a hardware donation, or it could be a cash donation that is earmarked for server upgrades/chip purchases. Ever since AI took off it's become such a common turn of phrase to use "compute" like this. As if the amount of money...

It's likely just grok credits.
