[OOC] I'm gettting mixed signals with what Kigur is saying while trying to be intimidating. What are you intending the goblin to do? Run away in fear like your a ghost? Cower in awe and be pacified?

[OOC] He is genuinely offering to protect the goblin from whatever bad thing is in this mine because he doesn't see goblins as evil. He was told a bad thing was in here, and now he finds a friendly little goblin that is very jumpy, so he assumes it needs help.

[OOC] He's used to people being scared of him, so he leans into it to push them past fear into awe. He doesn't want them questioning his motives. If they do that, he'll never be able to convince them he's being genuine.

The goblin eases slightly unsure what to do. “You scared me!” He says. “No one told Vasdec we’re expectin visitors...”

He begins weighing his options in his head and muttering to himself. Looks back at the wooden stool for a moment then to the lever.

Some strange gargling sounds followed by a hiss makes the goblin flinch and back up into the corner.

“I only need protectin from the self appointed boss over der!” He gestures to the lever surrounded by steam.

You realize the steam is a creature. Its vagually humanoid with long slender body. Its skinny arms have pointed elbows and long hooked claws on its fingers. A pair of wings flap lazily. Unsure if they are needed to keep it aloft or just moving as steam would. Its head is elongated with a long hooked nose and chin. Its long pointy ears sit far back on its head. The creature looks almost demonic. And its stairing straight at Kigur.

Kigur turns to face the creature. He flips his blade tip-down, then raps it on the stone in front of him. Kigur takes one methodical step forward and repeats the process until the creature reacts.

For a moment there, Loaf was afraid he was stuck in this mine alone, but his relief at seeing Kigur emerge from the mist is only replaced by the terror of seeing a demonic steam creature. Loaf remains hidden and slowly aims his crossbow at the thing, unsure if he has what it takes to shoot.

Enter into the mines as a fight starts!

The Mephit sees Kigur’s challenge and hisses. It prepares for battle. You hear it gurgle something and its form starts to vibrate making it even harder to see. A few seconds later it approaches to 15ft of Kigur and blasts a cone of super heated steam!

1. Kigur please give me a dex save DC 10 on fail take 1d8 (i rolled 7) fire damage otherwise you take 3.
2. It cast blur on itself - attack rolls against this creature are at disadvantage.
3. we dont need to roll initiative for this we’ll do it loosy goosy
4. the mephit is unaware of Loaf. The goblin is not participating in this fight.

Kigur takes the full blast of steam. When it's over, he has water dripping off his points and every bit of exposed skin is suddenly much pinker than before. His heart is pounding as he processes what just happened. He suddenly bursts forward, taking two steps, then leaping 10 ft., bringing his sword up into a swing as he does so.
