Iowa city council debates proper time in meeting agenda to "undo the curse that was just put on our city."

An Iowa man has kicked off controversy over religious freedom in the small town of Ottumwa, Iowa by opening a city council meeting with a prayer to Satan, which then kicked off a debate about the proper time in the meeting agenda to undo the “curse.”

They've lost nothing. They get to devote government time to religion. They've won so hard that I can't even begin to understand how to get society back on track without drastic measures

I can't approve of worshiping a devil/demon but I do approve of taking the opportunity to throw the hypocrisy back into their faces.

The Satanic Temple doesn't worship Satan either really. It's Pastafarianism, except more metal. It's a parody religion designed to push back on Christianity, going through the motions of worshiping Satan entirely to trigger Christians. You'll note in the invocation that she said to "Let us reason our solutions with agnosticism in all things, holding fast only to that which is demonstrably true." The existence of Satan is not demonstrably true and the Satanic Temple doesn't claim that it is. They're metalhead non-theists going through the motions of invoking Satan in order to get Christians to freak out so they can make their points and make the Christians look dumb. And when I say Christians, I mean these Christofascists / Christian Nationalists we're seeing trying to take over government, society and culture. They don't target peaceful Christians going about their own business. They target Christians in government (or other positions of authority) being authoritarian assholes.

When Abrahamic religion controls government, it's madness. And here we are.

As the 80s Satanic Panic showed us, we're not above losing our collective minds and putting people in prison... and if they ever control the USA again, they will kill you. They're instructed to by God. It would be wrong not to kill you.

I am a reasonable man and am certain that Christian's holy book is an absolute heap of disgusting, slavery condoning, male infant genital mutilation demanding, repellent, demented, vicious dark age mumbo jumbo. Christians should be told quite clearly that our citizens have the legal right to criticise, lampoon, ridicule and mock god and Jesus to their heart's content, in any way that they wish: that Christians have no special claim to protection from the rough and tumble of post-Enlightenment intellectual, political and social life. If they cannot live in a society in which this is the case, they should go somewhere else; they are, after all, spoilt for choice at least in theory.
