First of all, this is my first attempt at creating a community on the Fediverse, specifically Piefed. Please be patient with me, a part of why I wanted to do this is because I figured it was probably the best way to learn. The intention of this community is to provide a space separate from the other Movies communities, as those spaces tend toward new and more popular types of cinema. "Cult Cinema", in this context, is intended to be very broadly defined and should allow for discussion of a lot of different types of movies, but anything that is Really Super Popular, such as Franchise Movies (Marvel, DC, Star Wars, etc.), is to be avoided. Those types of movies already have their own spaces--so, so many spaces--for discussion. This space is for the other movies, the ones that people rarely discuss if they've even heard of them at all. That said, the community's images come from Repo Man (1984) and Videodrome (1983), generally considered cult movies but both of them are fairly well known. That's fine. Some types of cult cinema are more popular than others, and this space doesn't necessarily need to be solely for complete obscurities. Personally, I find arguments over whether or not a movie is "Actually a Cult Movie" boring. The whole thing is kind of subjective, and the Fediverse is pretty slow in general, so unless you're trying to convince us the latest Star Wars movie is "cult cinema", I probably won't remove anything unless it becomes a problem. If you're going to post something like a screenshot or a gif or something like that, please be courteous enough to make sure the name of the movie is mentioned. Part of the point of this community is to introduce anyone interested in cult movies to new cult movies that they've never seen. And, along those lines, don't be a dick if someone hasn't heard of what you think should be a movie everyone has heard of. If someone is taking an interest in cult cinema, that's a Good Thing. Either find a way to encourage that interest, or just refrain from posting. As I figure things out, I might make more concrete rules about this community if it seems to be necessary. Otherwise, the primary rule is don't be a Redditor (i.e. a douchebag), be a Cool Person to the best of your ability. The world has enough assholes. |
