I have a few dvds and blue rays that I want to rip. They are all movies / tv series, not games. Will any dvd / blue-ray reader manage to rip them or does it have to have some fancy capability to do the rip?

4K Blu-ray discs have some extra encryption or something and most PC disc drives do not work with it. This forum post seems to be the go-to community resource for identifying the specific models which actually are capable of ripping 4K Blu-ray discs: https://forum.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19634

But standard Blu-ray and DVD can be ripped with pretty much any drive. Go nuts.

Turns out that ripping software doesn't care about regions.

I've ripped both US and British DVD's. These will only play in their respective DVD players (had region players before I started ripping).
