The thing is, my ideas are usually bigger then blender. Ninja Santa that steals back presents from naughty kids isn't something I would come up with by looking at blender. It would be funny to mock up in blender though, maybe sketch it on paper first

I occasionally play around with Blender a bit, so I went to see if I've got anything interesting to show, and found I rarely actually end up rendering stuff out. So then I went through my Blender files, and rendered some stuff out. So, in no particular order:

  • This was a sort of "bat signal" like thing. It's projected onto volumetric clouds, which was way harder than I thought it would be:

  • I honestly forgot about this one:

  • This was an attempt at precisely replicating a physical object. Its a drone motor, but I didn't end up finishing all the parts:

  • Another replica, this time a ham radio dummy load (that's a resistor with fairly precise impedance, used for testing). I don't have the font anymore (and can't be bothered to fix it), so the text is gone:

  • Blender nearly froze trying to render this, don't know why:

  • Apparently, thin film shaders don't end up working like thin film filters would in real life, and Blender gets annoyed at light sources with 1 GW power (I'm not quite sure what I was trying to do here, so I can't really say if this experiment was a success or not):

I like to get high, open blender, and just freestyle. Here are a couple of renders:

I don't have examples but I would make a bunch of different characters, human, exploring the different hairstyles and outfits you can make. Because you can get up to some cartoony physics defying stuff

Create what you think people will look like in the future

Like in writing, or cartooning, or storyboarding for films, creating characters is helpful because you can create spin-off stories

Can i make stuff this good quality with a Ryzen 7 processor and 16 GB ram?

I have a Ryzen 7 processor and 16 GB of ram with an integrated graphics card(unfortunately). Can I make this quality of stuff still on my machine?

Probably?

Its more likely to depend on your GPU.

I've got a laptop with a 10th gen i7, 16 GB RAM and an RTX 3070 (the laptop version, so less power than a proper one).

For modelling, sculpting, ..., even geometry nodes, your setup should be just fine.
For rendering, if you don't have a dedicated GPU, just stick to EVEE. CPU rendering with Cycles is an option, if you need raytracing, but it will be slow.

I mostly use Cycles, because with denoising its pretty much realtime for me. But from what I've heard, EVEE is pretty close to Cycles nowadays anyways. I guess the main thing you lose is free reflections everywhere.

Also, I'm honored you found my stuff good quality, I don't really consider myself particularly good at this.

These are some of my esoterica art-projects from a few months ago, back when I was hyperfixated in tinkering with Blender to express my inner demons (actually a demoness). I pivoted from digital drawings to Blender, tinkered with it for a couple months, then I stopped doing Blender and went back to doing digital drawings but this time with a slightly better notion of depth and shading visually learned from my 3D projects. The owl is my first technically-successful sculpting, a character I sculpted then rigged (using Rigify's bird metarig) then painted a texture (including functional tapetum lucidum) and a hair particle system. She (owl) can flap her wings, blink, make a grumpier face expression typical of owls, among other poses. She was inspired on an actual Megascops kennicotti (Western Screech-owl) specimen I once saw in a Macaulay Library photography.I particularly kind of gave up on doing 3D scenes mostly due to the lack/scarcity of feedback (got enough of spending hours to days doing a scene only for the void to be the audience; same happens with my drawings, but anyways...), but also because my decade-old laptop sucks for the kind of heavy 3D scenes I end up doing, and because doing drawings (for things as complex as chimæras) feels to me slightly easier than having to mess with complex rigs (e.g. drawing a Lilith woman-owl on my smartphone's Sketchbook was easier than modifying Antonia Polygon's rig to replace human feet with owl talons; I managed to add horns, wings, vampire fangs and tapetum lucidum eyes to Antonia Polygon, tho).(Not sure if all four media will appear in this reply, as I'm posting from a Misskey-like platform to Lemmy; also I'm not sure if the animation video at the second media will play properly through Lemmy, as I encoded it without a -movflags +faststart parameter at the time)!nowhereelsetoshare@sh.itjust.works

High-res 3D render depicting the owl (brownish medium-sized Megascops kennicotti with glowing green eyes) perched on a tree branch while looking down at her own left talon, which is raised and grabbing an extremely tiny mouse. The mouse, having the size of one of her claws, is trapped between her middle and ring fingers, and her thumb is almost touching his tail and back of his spine. His tail is wrapped (akin to opossums) around the claw of her index finger. Both his hands are raised to his shoulders, as if in a mix of surrender, begging and praying/worshiping. Her right talon is holding onto the branch in a very relaxed manner, and her wings are folded behind her back. Her eyes have an intense and surreal/supernatural green shine as she looks at the mouse between her claws as if analyzing him with a certain disdain (almost like a "what your last words gonna be? I'm all ears"). Both are surrounded by foliage, mostly from maples, with some of the leaves having autumn tint (dark reddish-orange) to them, and green foliage right behind the owl. The Moon, blurry due to Depth of Field, is shining a pale red, a light of which is creating some rim light on both the foliage and the owl's claws.

A short animation taking place during night time, in a graveyard containing several rows of headstones surrounded by a short grass. A brown screech-owl is perched atop one of the headstones from the middle of the first row. The gray headstones all have the same carved inscription: “Vita mori oportet”. A red, large crescent Moon, with the concave part facing upward, looms above the owl. A few stars are visible behind, with the same red tint. A skeleton is stretching on the grass, few meters away from the headstones. The animation begins with the camera very close to the skeleton’s skull before it starts moving through the grass, past the skeleton, slowly approaching the owl. As the camera approaches, the owl briefly unfurls her wings while looking up, closing her eyes and opening her beak as if she were screeching/hooting. Then she furls back her wings, develops a grumpy face and begins staring at the camera. When the camera is closer to her, she tilts her head slightly (a behavior typical of real owls), then briefly lifts her right talons (scene’s left side) towards the camera while slightly stretching her claws and blinking both eyes in a tender manner, then she suddenly straightens her posture while doing the same piercing gazing again as her eyes glow green (slightly exaggerated tapetum lucidum to convey an uncanny supernaturality).

Another viewing angle from the earlier scene, seen from the skeleton's own left shoulder (our right side when looking at the skeleton). Through this perspective, the owl's talons are visible extended towards the skeleton as if the skeleton were her prey (spoiler: they are). It's also possible to see how the skeleton is screaming with head tilted up due to the inertia of them being pushed/flung. The camera is slightly tilted roll-wise so to add to the cinematics.

A high-res 3D rendering of a scene where Lilith (in this scene, depicted as a peach-skinned woman with long and straight black-to-red hair, short crimson Aries-like horns, long nails with dark red polishing, heavy eye makeup with red eyeshadow and dark red lips, slight cheek rubor natural of red-hairedness, void black eyes typical of nocturnal raptors with a tapetum lucidum which glow green depending on the viewing angle, vampire fangs, as well as extremely wide, red translucent wings, so wide and translucent it's blending with the red skies) is sitting on a big red throne (also kind of blending with the background due to the shared redness) holding a chalice (translucent red glass) next to Her lips while a medium-sized owl (similar to Eastern Screech-owl, but with dark brownish plumage) is perched atop Her head with each of the talons/feet wrapping around the thicker base of Her horns. Both are looking down at the chalice, with Lilith slightly and calmly smiling while the owl is gazing at the chalice with a deeply focused (and similarly calm) expression while her wings are tucked. Inside the bowl lies a downscaled human skeleton, seemingly floating above a red liquid (not visible in this viewing angle) while positioned in such a manner it looks alive and struggling trying to push themselves against the inner surface of the chalice. The background is a cosmic red sky with nebulae and stars, and there's a close fiery glow illuminating everyone in the scene, a light source seen as reflection on the chalice's glass surface and, to some extent, at the back of Her throne.

To me you are an expert. Of course I only know the basics of hard surface modeling and sculpting and nothing else in blender, yet. I would like to get into fluid physics but I have to look up a tutorial on YouTube and study pretty hard before I attempt it.

Fluid sims sound like an excellent thing for you, since (in Blender) they're entirely CPU bound anyways.

I can recommend trying to simulate explosions. Its pretty easy to get into, once you figure out how to get particles to be smoke/fire sources, but it has the opportunity for endless tinkering trying to make it look better (or just different). The only issue is having to wait up to an hour or longer for a sim to finish (I just watch movies or TV shows while it runs in the background).

Also, if you haven't done it yet: Do the donut tutorial! I haven't seen the latest version, but given that the trend looked like it kept improving with each iteration, it's probably still amazing. It teaches the basics of pretty much every system Blender has to offer.

And also, remember, you don't need to know how something works to try things out! You can just mess with settings and see what comes out. That's pretty much how I started (after the donut though, so I guess I knew a little). Try things out, don't worry about making "good" things, just make something.

Honestly, most of those scenes and renders were done on my old shitty ThinkPad T14s. Some of the more hair-heavy ones were rendered on my desktop though (Ryzen 9, RTX 3090, 64GB RAM).

Pretty often you can cut the rendering time by 50-90% by reducing a few settings that you will never notice anyway.
