St. Lucie County, Fla., residents sounded the alarm over the discovery of 14 Flock Safety cameras that officials have no record of. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office has claimed ownership of three of the cameras, although the department has declined to comment on why there were no permits or if they had accessed them. That leaves 11 cameras with unknown owners and no way of knowing who is accessing sensitive surveillance data. County officials are allowing the individual(s) time to take the cameras down before moving forward with an investigation.

In August, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an order to remove Flock cameras located within the right of way on state highway systems and revoked existing permits for automated license plate recognition systems. Florida was the first state to ban the controversial Flock cameras.

If the police doesn't own them, and there's no permit for their use, shouldn't they be removed immediately?

I wonder if this also means literally anyone can take them down and salvage the hardware?

ICE maybe? They've been using lots of shady methods to find anyone they can to meet their impossible quota of deportations. But could just be cops refusing to admit it or data broker corporations since they don't care about laws since they can just pay a small fine, bankrupt the shell company and change to another shell company and continue as usual.

Just like the Saudi family's private jet being the only passenger jet allowed in the air on 9/11 despite 15/19 hijackers being Saudi, the perpetrating party is being given grace because they need to clean things up first and construct the narrative.

Legally? No. Morally? You know people are planning this for Halloween right?

I’m wondering about the legally bit though. If the things are there illegally, removing them without damaging anything they’re connected to… someone’s going to have to say “Hey, that’s mine! I’m the one who illegally installed that thing! It belongs to me!”

Since they still have them there and haven’t claimed them, couldn’t they be claimed by anyone as abandoned salvage?
