Republican California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton is targeting Spanish-speaking voters with an AI-generated ad that shows a caricature of a trans girl playing soccer against high school girls. The ad even features an AI-generated version of his Democratic opponent, Xavier Becerra, taking a policy position that he does not take in real life.

The ad is raising questions about how AI is used both to create problems that don’t exist – the ad used generative AI to portray the trans girl as a much older man pushing cis girls around in a high school soccer game, which doesn’t happen in real life – and to put words in political opponents’ mouths.

Deep fake laws need to have severe punishments.

If it fits inside marketing budget it's not a punishment but just a price tag.

This should be considered fraud. Making claims about a political opponent that are a reach is whatever, that’s politics. But making realistic footage of your opponent saying something they never said is just beyond the pale.

My favorite one of those, is the woman who ran a marathon and found out a trans woman finished before her, and had a absolute shitfit meltdown in the news media, making it sound like she would have taken first place if that damned trans woman hadnt stolen it with her transness... except they werent in first place. they werent even in the top 100. they finished around like 1200-1500. a thousand other women beat her, but she lost her fuckin mind because a trans woman finished one position ahead of her.

My religious mother declares that trans people (and anyone who's not strictly hetero) is "going against god's plan for them". Arguments that perhaps god made them that way are rebuffed with, "that's not how that works".
