My source is that's exactly what I experienced when I used to have Malwarebytes on my PC.

you “experienced” Malwarebytes stealing your personal data? and doing what with it exactly? and how did you detect and verify this happening?

Curious... have you ever had it prevent infections on your machine? I just started using it, being quite new to running a Linux desktop. With the AUR attacks recently I thought I'd intentionally download an infected archive just to see if ClamAV would detect an infected download or at least a directory scan... it did not. I waited several days, updated it and scanned again, but still no luck. M...

It blocks malware every now and then on my email server and I've seen it clear files on samba-servers with windows clients and prevented infections from spreading in the network. So, it's not useless, but it's not on the same level than commercial competition either.

That happens more with paid antivirus than with free. Some paid antivirus are actual malware.

McAffee and Norton come to mind, but I'm sure there's more

I love how the personal data is depicted as a physical object that isn't there any more. And yet when people try and defend piracy, they say that because it's not a physical object it isn't stealing

It could be ransomware.
