I have been an avid fan of Sheena Ringo and Tokyo Incidents since 2009, owning all their albums on CD and all their live performances on DVD. On one of her cover albums, Ringo sings Unconditional Love. I never knew or cared who the original performers were, until now. I recently bought Cyndi Lauper's A Night to Remember

and as I'm listening to, suddenly I hear what to me had been "that foreign song that Ringo sang all those years ago". So I pick up my phone and duckduckgo Unconditional Love. I find, on Wikipedia, "a song by Cyndi Lauper" and "a song by Donna Summer". Summer's is a completely different song, which leads me to believe that my new found love, Cyndi Lauper that is, is the original singer of the song.

Is this so? 🥰

Yep, it was written by Cyndi Lauper! With Dusty Micale and Franke Previte (according to Wikipedia). Cyndi Lauper is a really good songwriter!!

Franke Previte is actually a semi-important songwriter in the 80s as well. He had influence in the 1980s re-emergence of 1950s music and fashion! He co-wrote two iconic hits from the movie Dirty Dancing: “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and “Hungry Eyes.”

But I actually love Cyndi Lauper. I highly recommend her album She’s So Unusual, as it is legendary. Time After Time is beautiful, but pretty much the whole thing holds up.

This is one of my favorite live performances of hers. I originally said “more recent” but I realize it was on VH1 Storytellers or something, which hasn’t existed in years.

Anyway I love Cyndi Lauper, you’re in for a great time!

I have She's So Unusual, A Night to Remember and True Colors. Love them ALL. 😍 As I bought each album, I was sort of waiting for at least one song to be an overly Madonna wannabe, but nope. Originality and girl power EVERYWHERE. Something I wish for in another life. (Sorry for the TMI.)

But speaking of Madonna, I found a VHS of a live show of hers in Italy. Absolutely fabulous that one too. I wonder if there are any Lauper live VHSs out there still. 😊
