There's too much media, I don't even really watch TV and movies anymore, except some sports.

I just cancelled my subscription after 20+ years. It's just not worth the rising costs anymore.

Why should it? That's been Apple TV's tactic and it's not the number one streamer. Netflix sees this plain as anyone else and figures the answer is elsewhere.

The only thing I can say about Apple TV is the product placement is stupid. It's so overboard in Ted Lasso. They dropped the "bad guys can't use Apple products" and changed it to "everybody must use Apple products" and it just reads as fake. I use them, but every usage seems like an advertisement.

And now you're gonna sail the high seas, right? RealDebrid + Stremio/Nuvio, or Plex/Jellyfin?

Apple TV has two major issues.

The first is a limited back catalog. For me personally, it's not important, I'm looking at he exclusives and the originals. For some however they need a reason to stick around and browse. Shows like "The Office" for example keep people paying for whatever service it's on because users always come back to it. Cheap alternatives like reality TV also works for some people.

The second is the Apple brand exclusivity. The brand launched hard as an Apple only service. Apple has removed most of their barriers nowadays, but I would bet many don't even realize they can probably watch Apple TV without owning any Apple devices.

4 of the current "Top 10 movies" in german Netflix are "Ice Age". Tells you everything you need to know about the quality. There is simply nothing left to watch.

I'm not the biggest fan of 'Dark', but when was the last time Netflix made a series akin to that? One that received widespread critical acclaim and was given the opportunity to conclude on its own terms rather than being rushed or cancelled? It feels like Apple has really come to dominate that space post-2020, whilst Netflix has become obsessed with churning out sequel seasons and spin-offs for low effort, big name IPs like Stranger Things, The Witcher, Wednesday, Squid Game, etc.

cancelling after 1 -2 seasons, sometimes 3 and making seasons have a long hiatus in between inst going to change anytime soon. plus being only a miniseries format at 8-10episodes per season, isnt going to hook people in form much longer. also the rising prices.

not to mention poor quality of some of the shows, the Props, the writing, etc. you can tell some of the shows are so cheap when they use cheap clothing.

i dont think any streaming service can overcome this, the massive cost to operate a streaming service, means they have to cut alot of corners and raise prices constantly, examples are the above mentioned.
