My experience with Ubuntu desktop has always been a real poor one but I realize other people like it. I'd go with cachy or endevourOS personally. My wife has probably less technical skill than you do and I've had her on endevourOS for nearly a year at this point. All she does is YouTube and gaming and it all runs near flawlessly. I also have both our systems dual booted but I also can't remembe...
That's very helpful. I'll totally have that in mind. |

Between those two, CachyOS for sure. You are already running LMDE, imo there is zero benefit to dual-booting with Ubuntu... You are likely going to be running into the exact same problems you already are.
That's what I'm also thinking atm. I'll keep yall updated. |

The biggest problem with Linux distros is choice paralysis. I’d recommend Fedora/(K/X)Ubuntu/Mint as a first choice. Fedora is very up to date, so if you’re giddy to try new desktop environment updates (like gnome, KDE, not Cosmic until it’s more mature), then go Fedora with the spin you think you’ll like the most, visually. Ubuntu is updated all at once every year/2 years or so. By the time an...
Thanks for your extense and detailed reply. I'll have it all in mind when choosing. Thanks! |

Debian stable. You'll be fine.
I have an Nvidia GPU and Debian's latest Nvidia driver update is aproximately one year and a half late in comparison with Nvidia's latest release. That's probably the main issue and the reason Debian and LMDE (and some other non-gaming focused distros) don't work for me (just in the gaming and video editing aspect), so I'm definitely discarding them as gaming (and related) single OS's atm, though if I could I would run Debian as my main and single OS in my PC. |

When I first looked into linux, I found heaps of recommendations for ubuntu, mint, zorin, pop, and fedora, but none of them seemed right (for various reasons), so I distrohopped until I found something that made sense. It's easy enough if you use ventoy, and if you have a spare drive, or even enough space on a drive to make some 50GB (ish) ext4 partitions. Even easier if using 2.5" sdd's since ...
I'll do some research on ventoy and the distro hopping system you explained, although I'm not sure I'm willing to start that process, since right now what I want is finding something that just works for me without having to spend too much time on it and specially not having to make any reset and/or backups. Just dualbooting and setting the gaming and video editing set up without going crazy. |

I was between CachyOS and Bazzite and decided for Bazzite for being a more stable and hassle free OS from what I read, because it's not a rolling distro with frequent updates that may break something. I went all in, deleting my Windows partition and am pretty happy with it ao far. I do have Affinity and Concepts that are windows only and I'm using VirtualBox for those.
How did you install Affinity? Was it difficult? |

No doubt that is what most people want, but it often isn't how it works, especially if you want to use software on linux, that the developer doesn't appear to want you to use. Rockyos linked above via distrowatch might be your best bet |

I'll save that RockyOS option just in case, since I would like the distro to support DaVinci and gaming at the same time. |

I haven't used rocky, it is just the one that is suggested in the arch wiki link above. |

No problem, I guessed so. It's the only os with official DaVinci Resolve support and I heard it's very complicated to work with, mainly if you're a beginner like me. But in the end I haven't actually tested it, so maybe I shouldn't discard it that fast, we'll see 🫡 |

In the repos yes, but depending on how philosophical you are there's nothing stopping you from forcing in the latest direct from nvidia blob yeah? (I did with no issue) |
