Lemmy generally doesn't like Seinfeld, on account of the whole dating-a-schoolgirl thing and the being-kind-of-a-dick thing

Ah yeah. This particular clip is good though. I find it really useful with IT support as well

Even though i have no evidence Im pretty certain there was no human in it also what was used in the show was likely a machine specifically designed for the purpose of the show nothing close to a practical car outside of looks.

Remember, this is the man that sold his first company Zip2 by doing this

"Ever marketing savvy, the Musk brothers tried to make their Web service seem more important by giving it an imposing physical body. Musk built a huge case around a standard PC and lugged the unit onto a base with wheels. When prospective investors would come by, Musk would put on a show and roll this massive machine out so that it appeared like Zip2 ran inside of a mini-supercomputer. "The investors thought that was impressive," Kimbal said."

Announcing the rugpull beforehand is very ethical of them

Let's say they actually did release this and it worked safely. What's the use case for being able to jump 100 feet? I can't think of anything other than to skip in front of the car in front of you in heavy traffic, or in other words, to be a colossal jackass to other road users.

I was looking forward to the reports of Musk influencers getting themselves killed.

The presentation was in the evening, even after regular after-hours trading. (Livestream was scheduled at 8:55 p.m. Eastern Time.) But you're not too far off, the first prices recorded in pre-market trading the next morning reflected a bump, and then that day closed lower than the previous day. (the vertical bit is the jump from last after-hours price to first pre-market price)

Thanks! I was looking for the graph but was too ignorant of the whole thing to post my own source. Just saw the times and graph on Bluesky yesterday.

We are going to build something. We dont exactly know what it will be, what specs will be, or what it will look like or if it will be built at all

Give us more money.

It was a dumb stunt and one that doesn't show of the models unique abilitys or features. Supposedly if you are a stunt driver you can get it for stunts but I can't see many being sold as drivers like to use old cars because it's not a big lose when they make a mistake and crash.

Yeah it sucks that he and kramer are both shitty irl

Its a great show and very funny even on a recent re-watch a few years back.

None of the rocket versions (and probably also the "suction" version neither) will be road legal. The cold gas thrusters they use are incredibly loud (and unsafe for anyone standing around) and the fan system spits out any debris on the road towards the cars behind it.

wait. they said the actual car will have them? I assumed it was only for the show

Somehow even as a stunt car it's less impressive for the fact that the amount of precision required means that the whole thing is computer-controlled anyway. If I go to see a stunt car show I want to see stunt drivers performing with their cars, not just sitting in them while an AI does everything.

Eh, I'm happy it got as many as it did. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't want to because they're (very justifiably) against Jerry Seinfeld. I just think the bit itself is funny.

I mean, nobody ever accused Larry David of not writing funny material

If it ever gets produced, it will never be road legal. Its a meme to drive stock up, this is the use case.

Of course, I am thinking of a future where Trump & co. isn't president who can allow something like this on the streets.

Well the one shown was only for show, but they announced they plan on selling it as an actual car. (It has to be said, that they already had announced a new roadster car 10 years ago and haven't produced even one production ready car.. so better not take their plans seriously at all)

I popped onto Reddit to see what the Tesla sub thought of this. The amount of fools who actually seem to think this flying car will ever be made is comical.

They weren't on Yandex I guess.

I am so dubious about the roadster demonstration. Was the car being operated by a human? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if the car was magnetized to the ramp and made super lightweight for the "booster jets" to work.

Or that it weighed like 75 kilos, a gocart with a plastic shell.

Anyways, from an engineering viewpoint it's utter trash except for a one off stunt like this, and even then it was super janky IMO. I sure wasn't impressed, I didn't really get what was supposed to be cool about it.

Why are they still calling it the Roadster? It's a fucking coupé.
