How can you force users to use Edge while also offering a really easy way to use something else?
Windows didnt always have an easy way to change the default browser From my knowledge, you cannot easily uninstall microsoft edge I have also heard that sometimes edge is reset to being the default browser, but havent experienced this myself (influenced by the fact that i havent used windows in years) Other than that, edge isnt really forced on windows users; if it was, it would be the most used browser on desktop |

Take a look at Linux Mint, maybe that could be a solution for you.
But I like Ubuntu, shit's cozy ☺️ |

For all of those you can just use firefox addons? Like, I would still recommend to use the tor browser instead of brave's build in connection thingy or a firefox addon if privacy is the goal, but firefox does have the ability for tor connections. For compatibility you can use an user agent switcher.
Sure, if you want to tinker, Firefox is great; Brave has way better defaults however, it's convenience. And dear god is convenience important for normies, when even simply installing another browser and importing their data is sometimes too much for them, much less moving from chromium to gecko. |

Don't use immutable Linux systems. They're gonna put defender in them.
Since when? |

This isn't even remotely comparable. Firefox's "AI features" are bloat and should be offered as extensions (if at all) and not part of the browser but they aren't "forcing" users to use them. They're just optional features the user is allowed to make use of. They don't do anything unless the user opts to use them, and they can be toggled off completely in settings. Whereas not only is it impossible (or at least designed to be impossible) to actually remove Edge, outside of the European region version Windows actually will always open Edge for certain links (notably those from the news widget in the taskbar) and it's not only impossible to configure this from Windows but Microsoft has shipped updates specifically to block third-party apps that work around it. This is aside from the various dark patterns encouraging users to switch back to Edge as the default browser. |

Shit you not, I was super excited and happy that they still offered windows 10 as a free download, did all the shit to my spare flash drive, only to get windows 11. Debian and Ubuntu didn't work on my desktop I want to download windows 10 again from the windows site and try again at some point but I feel like it's just gonna do the same.
Did you make sure the non-free firmware repos are on? |

As stupid as that would be Bazzite or some other immutable distro with defender is still better than windows. But I highly doubt every single immutable distro will decide to do this either. Some might, but each team is going to make their own choice. And honestly its a great litmus test to know what never to install. |

But if they don't care about the settings, and don't disable it, then its not wrong. Clearly anyone who does not like it can go and disable it. It makes no sense to be angry that there is an option. Any zombie does not care, so it is user error in that case. I am not even disagreeing with the fact that it should be opt-in; to protect those who don't care, who are zombies, and those who do user ...
