What would be really cool is if Doom responded to the steering.

"You wouldn't download a car!" Yes I would. Anyway, I'm glad to finally see something like this. Finally, the start of open source software in vehicles.
Open-source software has been used in cars for ages. Daniel Stenberg, the author of curl, has been receiving emails from people complaining about their cars, because his address was listed in the licensing section of the infotainment system's 'about' screen. |

I know it isn't. But it is a necessary step. And you should know that as well. The cool part is that they figured out how to interface with it. Why is everyone just trying to be the bigger asshole? Are you just begging for it because you think I am the biggest prick? You can run Doom on a fridge. I am not saying the feat isn't admirable. I bet it was tough to get Doom to run on a C64. That's ve...
No, you don't. You're either an LLM prompted to be an asshole or Dunning Krugering all over this thread and that is why people are calling you out. Because what OP did is pretty cool and no one actually likes an asshole who also clearly has no idea what they're talking about |

So OP compiled the Linux kernel to the chip architecture, which was the real feat, and that is admirable I know it isn’t. No, you don't. Because what OP did is pretty cool and no one actually likes an asshole who also clearly has no idea what they're talking about
Dude, J said it was cool. Sorry, were we wanting to talk about computers? Because you are simply just being toxic. Go touch grass. |

I'm about to pay 20 dollars for 1 month of Claude, plug that shit into my BYD, and have it hack the shit out of it. I can't code to save my own life, so I guess I'm tossing those 20 bucks over to Dario and see how my car battery melts in the middle of the night (on the cameras, I'll either be sleeping or watching animé).
Don't feel embarrassed about using AI to help you accomplish a real task. |

Oh no, it sucks, because now I am management. But I do get to design new solutions: that part is pretty dope. It is just a pain in the ass to get a proper budget. |

It can be. But I think it's easier to use a limited version of Android. QNX after all is a RTOS.
That does make sense tbh |

If cars infotainment was open source I would be so much more down. Obviously safety systems need to be more locked down so shitty people don't disable them and resell the car, but infotainment? Hell yeah. |

Congrats! Your changes will not be accepted, though: https://docs.nura.eco/policies-and-processes/development/ai-policy.html Not that anyone there would buy or borrow a car to make sure the port isn't a hoax. I know it's just the head unit but I don't know if Android will boot out of chassis (it's usually picky like that) and you said you are kexec-ing.
I'm aware 🙂 I respect their stance, and love the Nura community, it just happens to be an easy base to build from. It'll be something like AGL or AAOS that I'd actually use if it goes anywhere. Upstreaming isn't my end goal tho, we all know there's enough LLM slop being submitted as is, I'm just here to have fun and try stuff. |

Amazing 👏 I was looking atthe dash, excited to see my car! Is it a projection from a phone or flashed onto the head unit?
It's booted from a USB via kexec from stock, so it swaps out the kernel and I can then load whatever I like - only limitation right now being 32bit 😔 |

Why are people just being assholes? I thought we were talking about computers? So which is it: Am I a prick because I said that they loaded Linux onto a car's computer and they installed Doom, which is impractical, but certainly a cool feat to get Linux on there. But Doom? You can't shoot imps while you are driving. You're rocking a 5090? You doing video work? Mining? |

No, you were a prick because you minimized what they accomplished and repeatedly called it meh while bragging about what you could have done. You were an asshole. They didn't just get doom running, that was for fun. They listed what they got running and linked to their blog for updates. |

No, I said was asking why the hell they would install Doom. That's why I was being a prick. Look through my comments: you will see me talk up the achievements repeatedly. But of all things to install on it? Doom. Not an anti-flock GPS app, or VLC. Nope, Doom. That's what I mocked. |

https://vger.to/lemmy.zip/comment/29528932 I don't need to look at your other comments that came after, this is the context of you being downvoted and asking people why they're being assholes to you, it's because you were an asshole. You made an mp3 player from scratch? What you think that makes you cool? I designed and built a fully functional smartphone from scratch. Designed the multilayer motherboard, fabricated my own silicon, developed a custom ARM-compatible processor, wrote the bootloader, ported the Linux kernel, implemented the hardware drivers, designed the cellular modem and RF circuitry, built the touchscreen from raw materials, wrote my own operating system, and hand carved the enclosure. Then I realized I didn't want to depend on cellular providers, so I designed, built, and launched my own telecommunications satellite constellation, constructed a ground station, and implemented a proprietary global communications protocol. Naturally, I also built my own semiconductor fabrication facility because outsourcing the chips felt like cheating. The phone works pretty well, although I'm still debugging Bluetooth. Mp3 player, that's so meh. |

It isn't like it makes me cool. I was talking about how I enjoy making shit. And I don't fucking care about downvotes. I can't cash in internet points. God, the voting system which Reddit and Digg used was supposed to be for relevancy, not about if you agreed or not. I don't know you, and outside of the respect of general life, I don't give a fuck what some random person on the internet thinks of me. In fact, I don't want you to know me. However, if you met me, you would get a solid realization that text is a terrible form of communication. You cannot see the tone of my voice. You cannot hear the look on my face. You cannot feel my energy without a handshake. I don't like toxicity over the fact that all I said was it isn't practical to install Doom on your car. But you can hate me all you want. Don't know why you specifically just want to rage on the internet as if this means a single thing to your life. The newspaper will come out after I am dead and I will not be mentioned. We have 8 billion people on this planet who want to judge me, so I won't bother with doing your "job". But I think if you did know me, you might be kinder and recognize I am not an asshole. I am a prick, and that is fair. Assholes get fucked. So... get fucked. I have to go to work. And an mp3 player, where you start with a personally designed pcb, solder on the components, design the core logic, write the code, attach an LCD, and print an enclosure. Meh? You build one. You're so meh, I bet you think this comment is about you. You're so meh! Don't you, don't you, dooon't you! |

Doom. Meh. Pointless. Not practical. Now, running Doom from a database and acheiving 30 fps, now that's impressive. Installing linux on your car's computer, very impressive. Doom on your car's computer? Well good job lowering the resale value. I pray they got the bluetooth and GPS to work. How are you this daft that I have to spend a week to explain my point? |
