You may as well remedy never watching it just to slake whatever hypotheticals you have of it. I, personally, find it well made, though, yes - the Rose-Jack story is totally made up. But would you watch it without any similar story?

If you read about Tromelin island one of the rescued people was a baby. Survivors can have kids...

Unfun fact: the villain is named after the full legal name of a real person

This person is often stated to have been heroic, and he died whilst trying to help women and children onto lifeboats

The family tried to sue for defamation and lost

Ah I was wrong on the guy, was a tertiary villain, a ship guard who ignored all warnings cause "THE SHIP IS UNSINKABLE", and who was corrupt and accepted bribes

This is better than the movie. Liked the imagery of the boat being driven like it's Mario kart. That's my favorite part.
