More Cronenberg, certainly. His remake of The Fly, Scanners, Videodrome, and Naked Lunch most notably. Elsewhere we've got Eraserhead, Hellraiser (I'd follow up with part 2 since it works as a single story), and Re-Animator. Have yet to watch The Substance, but have heard good things.
Event Horizon, the TV show Hannibal, and the 2019 movie CATS, though that last one not really on purpose. |

How does one put up shelves with a phaser?
Tell whoever is helping you that it's not on stun. |

The way I always saw it. Star Wars was the every man sci-fi Star Trek was the thinking mans sci-fi Stargate was the military mans sci-fi I get that this is a gross over generization, but Star Trek pushed the whole "Prime Directive" thing, where Stargate said "There are few problems you cant solve by arming the locals with P90s". |

In the Star Wars universe people can ignore radiation, move objects with their minds, react to things that haven't happened yet (how else do you dodge a laser or block a blaster shot???), and there are force fields and alloys (beskar) that stop anything. Bullets would only work against stormtroopers or woefully unprepared civilians.
Lasers are slower in star wars. I think light moves slower through celluloid than vacuum but I'm not a lightologist |

I always thought they should establish in some of these universes that fabric technology has progressed to the point where ordinary clothing is bulletproof, which is why they need glowy beam weapons. They could've done that in Star Trek, but I guess it was more important to show off Shatner's chest.
In star trek technology has advanced to the point that Shatner's tiddies are bulletproof |

on the other hand, this now has me curious about the exploits of the other doctors - Dr. Wars, Dr. Trek and Dr. Gate |

Dr wars and Dr trek seem obvious. But Dr gate is an enigma. |

This happened between John Wick 2 and 3. Turned a good film series into boys playing guns. Pew pew, I got you. No you didn't, I was hiding behind my lapel. |

Pretty sure the phaser, on a high level, can burn through pretty much anything that is not star trek tech. It can also be set to expload. In that one scene Data blows up an aqueduct system, spanning a large hill, in one shot of his hand phaser.
It can vaporize any unshielded matter if you turn it up far enough. |

Unless they changed the lore again Star Wars blasters aren't light lasers, they shoot bolts of superheated plasma. |

Heh, that was a fun episode. I think it was a grenade rather than C4 though... |

dr who is the OMNI-tricorder, energy emitter, data storage.its signifincantly more powerful than a phaser. as variants of the sonic devices: sonic laser, cannon, umbrella,,,etc. in like the 1st few episodes of the 9th doctor, the sonic gun can disitengrate a wall in a second. |

C4 is clearly the best choice, as a sonic screwdriver is unable to deal with wooden doors and light sabers take time to get through blast doors. Both of which C4 has no issue with. I have not seen enough Trek to compare.
actually sonic screwdrivers can. in the "newer' series thier screwdrivers can lock/unlock doors at will, or produce an energy field. i think it was the 11th doctor series, where he was seen using on one of the wooden doors. |
