working with abstract ideas alienates you from other human beings as you see the world in a fundamentally different way than most people and you lose touch with social norms that are the building-blocks of social connection. it doesn't help that folks also tend to treat you like your a freak/monster because they are terrified of things they don't understand, like logic or pure mathematics. even...
In my studying days in Australia, i lived with a guy who studied abstract mathematics. I found that shit fascinating, but could only understand 1/3 of it. Dude was interesting as fuck! |

a lot of abstract math eventually finds an application, which is even cooler. there is just a gap of a decade or two typically. |
