Birds probably travel in flocks because one takes off and the others think they must know where good food is and follow.

Birds actually travel in flocks because mass drone surveillance in largely populated areas is not as easy of a task as one might think. Why do you think they called their company “Flock”?

So is it unwanted for me to point out its about safety? Flocks tend to confuse predators and so by being part of a group they decrease their odds of being lunch when an attack happens. Same reason fish tend to school although smarter predators use that against them.

Even when it is used against them, unless we're talking about using fishing nets, the chances for individual fish are better in a school.

Hahah, nonsense, of course they are real.
There's an unmarked van outside your house waiting to take you to see some birds, don't make us wait.

Unless it's an American school and someone shoots it up, of course.

Did someone ask them their motivation? I theorise birds are lazy and a group disturbed air current means they need to flap less.

Birds are chatty. In groups you have better talks.

The hive mind solves problems an individual mind can’t.
