In their defense, some people just are fucksticks.

Sure, but if 'fuckstick' is your sole 'argument', you can't exactly call foul when someone declines to engage with you for being childish.

There's something darkly enjoyable about seeing a comment that urges both sides of the argument to see reason get downvoted into oblivion. I agree with you, though. For 4 years now, we have perpetually been 90 days from both the AI bubble collapsing and AI stealing all of our jobs. AI is just a tool. Can you do horrible things with it? Yep. Can you do wonderful things with it? Also yep. Literal...

Well, they were being truthful and children tend to be exceedingly honest. So yes, it was childish, in a way.

Do you have an actual counter to my original argument or are you just going to throw vague insults at anyone who disagrees with you like everywhere else you've commented in this post?

As time goes by, you just learn to understand that some people are just not worth your time.

Also, you did not disagree with me because you didn't reply to any comment of mine. Oh, and there was nothing vague about the insult.

Cheers.

It's funny when people arguing for open source, copyleft and how copyright should not exist at all suddenly complain that AI is trained on stolen copyrighted data... Especially if that isn't even the problem. That AI canin fact rarely do wonderful things and just creates slop most of the time would have been an actual argument. But as lobbyists directing this fake mud fight write the arguments ...

I literally never said any of those things. Do you want to engage with people or just have fictional discussions in your own echo chamber?

Also, forking a repo or using someone's library without any momey exchanging hands is pretty different from using a glorified psychophantic prediction model that spits out results (for which it does charge money, mind you) for you to turn around and go "I made dis". All of this while you can't buy anything anymore and the bubble grows and grows. It's like the "this is fine" meme, but you just can't see the fire and you actually believe that everything is fine.

Children don't typically express honesty with 'fuckstick'. 'Childish' here is used to refer to the absence of capacity or ability to engage in constructive discussion. But feel free to keep painting 'fuckstick' in any shade you like. I personally prefer 'Yo mama' jokes when I lack the ability to win a particular argument.

Yeah, I will totally go and say, "Look at that wonderful sloppy slop I made" while praising an insane bubble kept alive by 24/7 propaganda fairy tales.

Oh wait... no I won't. And actually criticised that bullshit and the fake discussion directed by idiot tech-bros to keep the hype alive. Those lines you try to put into my mouth seem to belong to some idiot in your "fictional discussion in your own echo chamber".

Except that you didn't say any of that in this specific thread? Should I have read your mind? I also never said that you thought AI was great. I simply criticized the technology and that struck a nerve, apparently.

Also, are we forgetting that AI models were trained by stealing from a fuckton of people? How are folks ok with this? Why is the discussion solely about how well the models work? Where is everyone’s moral compass?

Also considering how often you miss the mark with it, maybe look up what psychopath actually means...

They said I "argued for" open source, copyleft and how copyright should not exist at all. I literally never said any of that.

I get why the quoting bothers you, but ime, people with a particular style of 'reasoning' tend to go back and edit or delete all of their comments.

The quoting bit is just me teasing you and the edit was just that I said "you" when I should've said "they" in the first sentence. Sorry to disappoint, I guess.

Also, accusing others of deleting or editing their comments while using an account that isn't even a month old kinda looks like projection.

It's been said a billion times: you don't get to decide what I find relevant. The only reason these clowns want to hide their behavior is because they're ashamed of the criticism. There is no other reason to hide attribution, your patronization notwithstanding.

by that logic, devs should also disclose their preferred IDE, colorscheme, and favorite programming language. Mine are kakoune, gruber dark(-ish custom) and rust respectively btw. I'm not ready to trust someone with python in their favorites (I'm extremely racist towards python)

Yes. If a piece of art is "good" who cares where it came from? The "where it came from" is as integral to the "quality" of the art as the "art" itself. This is a very "product" mindset, concerned with the end result and how it serves you. Myself, and many others, are not as concerned with that or they may be against AI for other ethical or environmental reasons. The take you're giving presuppos...

In the universe where the "where it came from" can't affect the end quality, the question itself indeed becomes irrelevant. And in case of the Linux kernel it is indeed irrelevant, as the code will be reviewed, appraised and tested before releasing.

And yes, the utilitary mindset is more applicable towards code than it is to art. Unless we're talking about stuff like ioccc, where the code itself is the form of art, code is just a mean, not the end.

Why is it more applicable to code than art?

You can see my other posts in this same thread but I think you are taking that claim as a given. If I'm judging two pieces of software, why should I only use utility to my needs as the axis upon which I judge them? Why is that ontologically the correct method of judgement?

Why shouldn't I treat alignment with my values, the degree to which the code fostered a community that was pro-social, or the beauty of the code as the means by which I judge the code?

jesus christ... it's been said over a million times, the development of the linux kernel is not some fucking 5 star github repo. it goes through a shit ton of review, it's seen by a lot of eyes. a small piece of text that says it was assisted or not by ai is irrelevant if the code is good or not, which is the work of maintainers to decide.

It's seen by a lot of eyes

Wonder how long before the code review is also offloaded to AI and Linux kernel becomes a black box with not even Linus himself knowing well enough how it works and what it does.

Completely this. As long as the code is good,. does it matter where it came from?

Short answer, yes.

Long answer: yes, because private property of the means of production is bad. And because AIs got where they are now by stealing content. And because most major AI-companies are in major with fascist and genocidal governments. And because they're speedrunning environmental collapse.

Can we as the tech community

Do you talk about everyone in the tech involved? That's hardly a single community under one umbrella. You ask everyone using any tech to believe what you want to, by just asking them to.

stop dick riding Linus

Whatever that even means to you. No one of rides on Linus' dick.

accept that he sold out to big tech

He didn't sold out to big tech.

Linus explained multiple times that he just uses Ai to help him and their maintainers. Everyone involved still need to understand the code.

Does not matter how he uses AI. It is a fundamentally unethical technology. Environmental damage, job losses, stealing work from open source programmers and artists, poisoning the young generations mind etc.

I don't give a fuck how Linus uses AI. Linux was here before LLMs were a thing and it can continue to be like this. Linus chose the easy way and disregarded every single negative aspect of it and decided to call it 'just a tool". The exact same excuse every single cuckcoder uses btw.

Linux was much different back then and changed multiple times over the course of its existence.

I do not believe that Linus disregarded every single negative aspect. He still expresses his issues with it if there are. Linus was always pragmatic and practical thinking. From his perspective it is just a tool, like a compiler is.

The exact same excuse every single cuckcoder uses btw.

What is a cuckcoder? (I start thinking with your language and choice of words in both replies, that you have a dick problem.)

but why remove it ?

Because it's literally advertising for LLM companies. Because certain news sites conclude from it that "AI did $thing" instead of "engineer did $thing, using whatever tools they found useful". Because you can't actually enforce it, which makes the tag completely useless.

Any of these reasons is good enough on its own.

As some one here summarised it: it is to stop AI companies from getting free advertisement and endorsement, the kernel itself goes through an unbelievable amount of scrutiny so the disclosure requirement was irrelevant

no, that would be me if i'd say we can't move away from capitalism. i am a marxist leninist, i am very much in favour of ending this shit your people have imposed on the rest of mankind. the argument here is use or not use ai for ethical reason, this is what i oppose. it's not ethical, it's reactionary and it doesn't produce a better outcome. i am in favour of a more ethical ai. this implies open local models, not using western models, and regulation and standardization.
