I appreciate that porting Doom to things never intended to run games is a notable achievement, but wouldn't Tetris or something like that be more fun to actually play over the long run? I've played enough Doom already. |

If I may recommend a website to katamari: https://www.timecube.net/ The time cube has a pleasing array of increasingly large fonts. |

The thing about Doom is that it's not even 3D graphics. There are many shortcuts in its engine that make it utterly fake 3D. Why that is important is that actual 3D math is WAY more computationally expensive than the many shortcuts programmed into Doom (and many other game engines of the era, like Duke 3D). That's the only reason Doom has shown up on so many devices... because it looks more complicated than it is. ... though with how powerful <1W chips are getting these days, you bet your ass you'll see more advanced games showing up in more and more weird places. Much like the recent bout of PS1 games showing up everywhere. For perspective on the other end, just look at how powerful flagship phone chips are. They can easily out-render even PS3 graphics while drawing less than 10W of power. Even current chips shit all over a Switch 2 in performance. (same as the original Switch at the time) ... Too bad nVidia (and to a lesser degree the Huang/Su family in entirety) are hellbent on destroying consumer products... |

It’s not so much about the playing, it’s about honoring the legacy Doom was an iconic breakthrough of technology and revolutionized the industry, bringing it to new devices keeps it a relevant touchstone in gaming culture’s rich tapestry which I really love |
