Yeah, I've used it and Gemini. Both of them have told me completely wrong things unrelated to the problem while trying to weirdly kiss my ass like AI tends to do. I've gone back to buying Chilton's and Haynes manuals online.
There is also Lemon manuals! I seed the torrent if anyone wants to grab them. :-] |

I know this isn't exactly what you are talking about, but read the update portion of that post. I have been listening to music on cassettes for about a week now, and during those moments (circa 30 minutes per session) I feel so fucking free, because I don't have to touch my phone. 🥰📼🎶 |

Beautiful read. Are cassettes still easy to find or have it become a specialty item? |

Analog? Probably not. However, I wouldn't be surprised if air gaps become more commonplace. I also wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a feature that, in some instances, you pay for. |

To some degree but not in the way you're imagining. I share your hope of a catastrophic crash for AI and a dramatic loss of consumer sentiment. However, in the worst case we're talking about a 10 or more year "great depression" in which industries stall and so on. There's not going to be an "internet doesn't work" type crash. I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of the children of today (gen alpha ?) eschew technology to the same extent that millennials embraced it. |

Ngl I only read the post title cuz I have a headache and should prob stop looking at my phone, but I have to say that I really miss buttons. Like, clicky buttons that depress when you push them and sometimes even make a nice little sound. Also knobs. Nice turny knobs, maybe the ones that do that little click every 5 degrees rotated. Yeah. |

Please tell me I'm not the only one that still has a simple wristwatch.
I want to get one. Buuut the rabbit hole of watches is quite a steep one |

Individuals might but not to the extent that it would make any difference. AI isn't going anywhere. Even if the bubble bursts, many if not most of those companies would still survive and keep developing better models. The problem is not that they don't have a product but that they're overvalued - that will probably get re-adjusted at some point. |

Thanks! ^^ I bought my audio cassettes factory sealed on a marketplace like website. Five cassettes for about $20. |

they posted on the internet... But seriously, what are you even talking about? Dozen of individuals might log out of social media, some might move out and try living in a forest or something. As a society we're not going to abandon modern communication tools, modern medicine and modern financial tools. Some people are mad at AI, no one is mad at computers to the point of going analog. |

When AI crashes it will make computing prices plummet... All the factories making AI shit, will switch back to consumer grade. Like, I don't even understand you post, you say it'll fail then go on a rant about it working?
AI isn’t going to crash. It’s here to stay I’m afraid. |

All digital technology is already just a layer on top of analog technology. Analog is inescapable. |

As someone that lived through the analog to digital transition, please please please never hope to go back. There have been incredible gains in data storage, sharing, and analysis that have benefitted humanity in ways that are impossible to describe. AI companies are not all that is digital technology. We had a quarter of a century with a solid digital infrastructure before they came along. |

Unfortunately, those same companies are apparently trying to do their best to ruin all those gains. |

You think Microsoft considered you a stakeholder when they released MS-DOS in 1981? Customers aren't stakeholders. They are customers. Your understand of economics and business here seems to be a lot of idealistic projection about how things should be, not how they are/were. No idea what you are on about. Every product I use in the IT space is continually getting better than it previously was. ...
Kind of wild that as software has literally gotten worse by locking features behind awful subscriptions, stealing your data, spying on you, etc, that you defend it as better than ever. Wild that as most appliances now have Wifi or other bullshit features for no reason and also breakdown after 3 years you say everythings better! Planned obsolescence is good I guess??? Do you even live in the real world? Were you born yesterday? You are outright lying and anyone who lives in the real world can feel it. CEC barely works half the time. Plugging in my vynils analogy cables NEVER FAILS. Don't be so disingenuous, it's embarrassing. Boots don't need licking. |

No. Convenience is king. Analog tech is inherently slower, more expensive, etc. This is like asking if farming by hand is better than farming using machinery. The only reason people think this is way is because they didn't live through analog tech, for them it is retro or nostalgia and they romanticize it because when they do use it, there are no downsides. Just like the people who think farmin...
Convenience is king for people who forgot that life isn't about being productive. Y'all are weird and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. Take a minute and enjoy something for once. "Convenience is king" is exactly why the world is so fucked up right now. |

What? Explain to me, in detail, how ChatGPT will undo our use of the xlsx spreadsheet format? How will Claude end use of databases and use of Python, R, or even fucking STATA to look for correlations? This comment is entirely removed from reality. |

No, it's hardwired behavior. all animals want to use less energy when they can. the only weirdos are the ones who expend tons of energy on unproductive useless stuff, like running marathons, biologically speaking. |

Because I'm not a FOSS idealist, that's why. You can turn all of that stuff off. You don't have to buy any smart appliances. Stop acting like a victim dude. Jesus. You have plenty of options in software and appliances. But keep pretending you don't I guess, because it makes you feel aggrieved and angry and justifies the relentless negativity/superiority complex that sustains the userbase here. The only one doing the licking is your licking your own ass and wondering why the world tastes like shit. Some of us don't live in a delusional victimhood mentality, we go outside and touch grass and we buy and use software that works really well. |

You are lost. That people can think we only exist to be productive is a sad fucking state. Fix yourself, you are the problem with this world. You will optimize everything until you sit there and wonder why the fuck you're still unhappy, completely missing the point of everything in your life. You've been convinced by people with infinite greed, that greed is hardwired into us. It's this belief that is leading the world into regression after decades of progress. |

" you can turn that stuff off" Can I not purchase it in the first god damn place? Let's not even get started on the obfuscation of fixing your own shit, right to repair exists for a reason dumbass. Parts are barely available, manuals non-existent, and no one on staff knows how to do shit 90% of the time. It's like you can't think more than one move ahead and you've never spent a single day in the real world. "Let's put this extra tech in and charge everyone more! Fuck letting them opt out!" You're a corporate apologist who'd sooner sell their fellow man down the river for $50 and a pat on the back from your daddy manager. |

I need a second comment to express how fucking stupid you are. It's not even close to an established fact that humans are hardwired to be productive. You just lied out your ass. You are such a disingenuous person. |

Only thing that is wrong with me is my opinion is different than yours and you find that intolerable, and yeah if that's how you think the world should be, entirely a reflection of your own ego, it will forever regressive in your eyes, because it's framed entirely in terms of you alone. No, I'm convinced by biologists and psychologists... last I checked some biology professor make 80K at a university is among the least greedy type of person there is. But please tell me how all academic reserach is tainted or something because you can trace the funding back to some billionaire who donated to their uni the work at? I'm perfect happy with my life, thanks. Seems like you are not happy with yours though and feel the need to project that lack of control via the internet? Personally I am not impacted by 'people with infinite greed', so much as I am by my neighbors across the street who demand my city lower taxes so the can buy a 5th SUV who think I'm the problem because I want higher taxes and only own one car. Regardless, you are so blinded by your rage you don't even understand what I said, which is kind of hilarious. Greed has nothing to do with it. People are lazy, all animals are. |

That's weird. I have a non-smart microwave I bought 8 years ago and it works fine. So does my fridge. I also have a really nice smart TV, that works great w/o an internet connection.... It's fine if you want to be angry and miserable and think anyone who doesn't agree with your mentality is evil and awful. But that's your choice too. |
