They're suspending service to French users, not physically leaving (I don't know where they are). It seems they're not sure how to do that, though.

In the future, will we need VPNs that also change their DNS depending on which country the exit node is located in?

Simple geoblocking IP tables or firewall rule. There’s no way their team couldn’t figure this out, Google has the answer.

In the future, we will only use the clearnet for official functions.

Woow... That's huge ^^ ! I guess my pi wont work anymore without any vpn.. This clearly sucks !

Maybe time to switch to I2P for torrenting and doing my part for a more free open internet? Any Other alternative?

I don't think folks like them would bother with geoblocking, given their principle. Most likely the French govt would block them first.

Seems like they're blocking French networks (ISPs?) instead of IP addresses, since GeoIP blocking was found insufficient by a German court. I struggled to understand their actual plans from their blogpost though, maybe someone else can interpret it better?

They have a poet in their press release crew.

That was beautiful.

Are they trying to force DNS resolvers to become authoritative entities...? Like bro they're just supposed to route me to an IP. It's not on them to block content based on what others want.

how? They use DNS to "block" access to websites by not resolving domain name, if they would have an other way to block a service they wouldn't need to ask DNS provider to do so

They can make the ISPs block certain IP addresses, perhaps

I actually think the clearnet will just cease to exist. It will segment so that every country/jurisdiction has its own version of it. And then you'll have the like singularly controlled corporate ecosystems like how so many people just think Facebook is the internet.

Italy has been "blocking" sites by forcing DNS providers to remove them for ages.

And that's lucky, I'd say, because it's super easy to circumvent.
