Still illegal, but without consequences.

I think if the nation-state wants to keep existing as a meaningful power structure, it will have to start merking CEOs or at least get serious about enforcing their damned laws.

Should have a pretty heavy fine, like 30~50% of annual revenue of Alphabet to cover the costs of repair in this land. Sadly this is only in my dreams.

the company had acted “on the best understanding we had of the legislation at the time”.

"We thought we could get away with fucking your environment"

They better start arresting these ghouls.

Because the wealthy have become more powerful than the levers. Someone 99% tax is looking real good.

Without meaningful consequence, there is no way this evil will change. No morality, no compassion, we are held prisoner by psychopathic corporate interest and we need to address the problem.

The difference is they no longer feel constrained by public appearances, which IS a new development. Carnegie was an asshole but he knew that public opinion mattered.

This change is the cancer metastasizing

Best we can do is a €40,000 fine to be paid after the project completes.

The land cannot be repaired. The activists who have inspected it are reporting that all organic matter has been stripped and shipped out from the plot.

They should be held liable for replanting each tree the way someone would be held liable for accidentally toppling a neighbor's

As bad as it is, that's probably not even a square mile. But still, habitat destruction adds to itself quickly. Since they started a new hood by digging out the woods behind me, we've seen a bear and a deer on the street. Not good. They are way too shy to be coming into neighborhoods.
