Hello,
I've been enjoying Paperspace instances (A4000 these days) for a while. However, since a week, I had catastrophic storage performances. I suspect they started virtualizing Windows (since they announced dropping support for new users).

Can someone suggest an alternative?

Here are my criterias:

  • support for Windows templates
  • no upfront cost (210€ upfront on Akamai, 100€ for OVH, seriously for 0.8$/h instances!)
  • available in EU
  • GPU models appropriate for gaming
  • affordable prices, I'm currently paying 0.8$/h + 11$ for monthly storage (500GB SSD + one snapshot)

How very greedy. Why not get yourself an EC2 instance?

Are Nvidia T4 and A10 suited for gaming?

Sure. You might need that for the really computing-intensive applications, like games that use locally hosted models. You're asking for rented GPUs rather than buying the hardware yourself, so I'm guessing you want to play with the big stuff.

The cloud is somebody else's computer. You have no idea if that person is honest or what their intentions are with your data and your money and even you. For the most part, most of them have shown bad intentions with cloud computing, as in you will own noting and you will rent everything. It leads us all closer to being enslaved. If you have no other option, I guess that's understandable, but if you do, save up and buy a GPU while you still can.

OK thanks I'll have a try! Yesterday I found g4-standard-12 instances (GCE) are not available unfortunately (got resource_availability error on all EU regions I tested...)

I believe it's still better than renting games. Here I can just backup my saves and move elsewhere (other provider or on real hardware if I want). I've been playing like 100h per year, so I thing spending 2K$ in hardware when I can just spend 40€/month is not worth it for me.
